  1. Yep, I feel bad about that overdrive I put your way. I'm seeing if I can get one made.
  2. I agree. Anyway. It all went really smoothly after that, and started to look like an overdrive. So I spun it over and..........it baulked at one point in the rotation. A close examination of the new, to me, layshaft showed a cracked tooth. So, I need another new layshaft..... Still, I know how to do a rebuild now.
  3. Soft jaws are cheap! Anyway. The synchro unit is okay, compared to a lot. But I was lucky enough to get a bag of new syncro rings for not much money, so these will go on instead of the old ones. Some macro photos!
  4. I could do with making some soft jaws for the vice....
  5. Refreshed and somewhat able bodied in the new year. I cleaned up the input gear, and fitted the new bearings.
  6. I've read that it can take a year to recover in bad cases. Mine is nearly there, the wound is sealed, and, while it hurts at the carpel ligament when I hold stuff tightly, I'm able to use my left hand for most work.
  7. Sorry to hear that. Is it the wound? Mines doing very well, still nervous about putting much pressure on it, torquing stuff, but so far so good. I cup the wound by wrapping my hand in duck tape but that's it.
  8. Any photos of the old pumps?
  9. That's going to be so much stronger than the cast original. 4 more days before the stitches come out and I can start doing some light work. I've a target of getting the overdrive done before next year.....
  10. I like his stuff, clearly an enthusiast, and experienced. He says it like he sees it, and is honest. I mightn't agree with him, but that's okay. His review was fair, I thought. Mind you, with my driving needs these days, I'd only be looking at a second hand Dacia duster!!!!
  11. Oh. My. Word! This is great! Once my wrist is fixed, I had better get spannering. (Carpel tunnel decompression surgery last week)
  12. My tow work isn't very cool. Most of my towing is very practical. But it HAS been around Castle Combe circuit....
  13. Would an exhaust gas temperatures gauge be of benefit in this installation?
  14. I think the original damaged housing was late 2a specification: 7/6" studs. This series 3 was one of the first of the line, serial number was less than 500.
  15. I'll check when in the workshop again. I'm going to tap them out to BSF (or whatever the studs are), the dowels aren't a snug fit to the arm, so that's a non starter.
  16. I'm working on a series 3 front axle at the moment, and replacing the swivel ball housing, due to a damaged thread on one of the stub axle holes. The nos housing came with eight studs and nuts, which I thought interesting, but it was only when I compared it with the old one I realised why. The new studs are much narrower than the original, and closer inspection showed that half of the studs were stepped to allow snug fitting to the steering arm. I'm not entirely happy with this and am very tempted to tap the holes out to take the original, opinions?
  17. I've the Lidl single battery saw. For a consumer product it's genuinely useful, I use it as a pruning saw. Worrying amount of plastic gears, but it's still working. But I'm seriously considering increasing my investment in Milwaukee stuff, the Lidl stuff is good enough, but my batteries are starting to fail after four years or so, and its the electronics, not the cells, that are failing. That annoys me. So, as I've also got some Milwaukee stuff, time to pivot on the heavily used tools.
