  1. Have they tried changing the starter motor on it? Don't ask why (I don't know why) I just know that it works on some vehicles...
  2. Don't most of them do that? If I top off my Discovery V8 I can get about 80 miles before the gauge starts to move, but I am lucky to get 80 miles out of the last half of the tank... Moral of the story is never to go anywhere on less than half a tank of fuel There are a few round here but none have gone wrong yet
  3. I do... Ping! Nice idea but much the same problem as the TDV6 would have had in a Defender - nothing else in the drivetrain is strong enough to cope with the torque.
  4. Never heard of a 55th anniversary model and anyway 2003 would have been the 55th anniversary not 2004! I should check the price guides for your area for a normal model and certainly not pay over the odds for it...
  5. And they waste time and money for the handful of people still trying to view the forum on dialup...
  6. The diff will fit in (assuming you have the right flange fitted on it - easy to change if not) but it is a 2 pin diff not a 4 pin, so no advantage to the diff you already have...
  7. Not on the website but I will ping them an email... cheers
  8. not much advantage to be had with V8s, mine is about to get a new timing chain and sprockets at 37000 religiously serviced miles from new, because there is so much slack in the timing chain it looks like one of those diagrams of how a satellite gets thrown around the moon by the gravity...
  9. That's another option ... the D44 one looked neat though
  10. It wasn't (it was a whole new door bracket) but that is a nice solution... lot of dosh for a bit of alli plate though!!
  11. Yeah I didn't think I was going mad (yet) Guess D4x4 stopped making them then - I thought it was their site I saw it on. Probably a limited market for a wheel carrier to suit 35 inch tyres on a Discovery
  12. Oi we were having a good rant about speeding here!!!
  13. Td5 airflow meters do die (even with the proper air filter) and that is usually the symptoms - power loss - and usually there are no fault codes logged in the ECU. You can tell by using a T4 and comparing the airflow at idle to the "expected" figure IIRC, but offhand I can't remember what either of the figures are
  14. I don't think it will make any difference, the one I recall seeing was slanted upwards quite noticeably. To be any use it needs to raise the spare wheel by a couple of inches and then if I put a smaller spare wheel on (I never get punctures so I could carry a 205R16 as a get me home spare) then I ought to be able to hitch up the trailer without opening the #kin door every time.
  15. Quite a while ago I remember seeing somebody selling a modified spare wheel carrier, I think it was for a Discovery Td5, to fit up to 35" tyres on the rear door and still clear the bumper, basically it was like the standard carrier but "swept up" so the actual mounting point was a bit higher. I think (haven't checked) that the new Defender (02 onwards) carrier is the same bolt mounting pattern as a Discovery, so it seems to me that it might be a solution to carrying a spare wheel on the back door and still being able to use the NATO hitch - as everybody who has one will know, if you have a 32" spare wheel on the back door you can't open a NATO hitch if it is on the crossmember because the tyre touches the top of the jaw, so you have to open the door, open the hitch, put the rope in, close the hitch and then close the door. Not so bad with a rope but with a trailer it is a pain in the butt and "highly finger pinching", taking the spare wheel off every time is just as big a pain. I use the Sankey quite a bit now to cart fuel to the house and rubbish to the tip so I need a better solution. So does anybody remember who made the carrier I am thinking of (I thought it was Devon 4x4 but can't find it on their site) is it still available and would it fit a new type Defender rear door? ta
  16. I think the answer may be slightly muffled due to the fact it will be coming from upside down in that hedge over there
  17. Available to buy easily, yes, but different to Defender seals so you need to get the right number. To change them you take the box out clean it all up thoroughly and turn it upside down in a vice, trying to do it in the vehicle is nigh on impossible and a recipe for dirt, mangled seals and leaks. getting it right is by no means easy and many still leak but it is not an impossible job - main problem is the seal kits are quite pricey and how many unsuccessful goes do you give it at £30 odd a go for the basic seal kit and well over £100 for the full kit, before you give up in disgust and get a new box!
  18. You can re-seal the box but it isn't always successful. Mine was done about three or four years ago and so far no leaks.
  19. Still can't imagine 100mph in a Defender being a terribly bright idea... I wonder what insurance companies say about the speed delimiters - after all there is only one reason for fitting them which is to go too fast in a vehicle not designed for speed!
  20. 235/85R16 and 265/75R16 have both been factory sizes though the 265s are no longer fitted.
  21. Very true, not thinking of anywhere in particular either
  22. Sealed beams always have been and always will be carp. Whether you use them depends on whether you need to drive at night or just need a working headlight to pass the MOT
