  1. Sounds excellent A lot of people underestimate Suzukis.... they might loosen all your fillings but its surprising what you can do with them...
  2. Do they react in the same way as rusty steel and alli then? I thought that s/s was more or less inert hence the fact that all the shiny bits of my boat are stainless
  3. The bolts on the back end of my 90 are starting to rust, like they do to show it is ooooh two and half years old at least I've seen kits advertised to replace the whole lot with stainless, I found one kit thanks to Google from Mud Stuff, are there any others worth looking at? Mud stuff's kit is £40 which is quite a bit of a bag of bolts, but that seems to include just about all the exposed bolts including bonnet hinges and stuff, so should sort the problem for good. Makes you wonder why LR don't pop another £40 on the price of the vehicle and fit them as standard, doesn't it? Ta Stephen
  4. Thanks The RBL116SSS is the main one we've had from SD in the past, for 110s. I've just had a reply back from Evans UK with loads of photos of the Protection & Performance cages and some prices, which look to be quite reasonable (on a similar level with the figures quoted above) so may well go with them I think Thanks for the comments including those by PM
  5. Yeah I doubt whether something that is a one off bespoke would be suitable though because that will almost certainly be a lot more expensive than an off the shelf kit and we all know how mean people are... the end result may be better (Nigels cage being the ultimate example of how a bespoke build is better!) but most people are cheapskates
  6. Exactly. V8 = mmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMmmmm overtaken Tdi = mooooooooooooo[jerk]RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR [f***theresanoncominglorry]RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR[f**********] RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR[swerve]rrrrrrrrrrr[phewthatwa close] Chris I remember that hill but it was about 30 degrees this was just a "normal" hill that my Tdi 90 will go up in 3rd when warm ....
  7. I don't own one but I've driven several, two of which used to be owned by the company I work for, and I hate them. All you seem to get when you put your foot down (in a Discovery at least; maybe better in something lighter like a 90) is more noise and precious little acceleration. Some people swear by them but I'm afraid I swear at them. None more so than when I had to put the old company Disco into low range to do a hill start with a cold engine (on road) because all I got when trying to do it in high range was a sort of strangled mooing noise from under the bonnet The EDC ones with a bit more power are quite a lot better so one that has been tuned might be verging on acceptable. Tin hat on...
  8. The "one sets or two sets" argument is an interesting one. If you have one set then there comes a point where they are a bit too worn to cope with really gooey stuff but not worn enough to justify chucking them when there is still the best part of 50% of the tread left.... whereas if you have a good set then they get relatively little use so when you want them you've got the tyre at its best, and they last for years. I've had my set of BFG 33x12.50R15's for about six years now I think, and they still have about 2/3 of the tread left of them (I ran them as everyday tyres for a while otherwise they'd be almost as new). If I get another 5 or 10 years out of them (quite possible) the cost per year is pretty cheap really! The smaller BFGs I run on the 90 every day are starting to get to the stage where anything resembling a bootful of throttle means you need to clean the roof when you get home because they just spin where they used to bite and off you'd go.... but because I know I have the other set for serious forays, I won't be chucking them just yet as they are OK for much of the mixed driving I do from one week to the next. But if they were my only set, I'd probably be thinking about getting new ones soon - so having 2 sets is not necessarily more expensive in the long term!
  9. I've got a couple like that. I have been meaning to post them some time... must get a round tuit
  10. cheers, looks like they don't do 110/130 ones though only 90 and Discofairy Wonder if I could get a cage for my armchair...?
  11. Sorry m8 got ADSL connection now so the piccies had downloaded long before I finished wading through all your waffling Looks good. The only "apparent issue" with the EP's is that I understand the gearboxes are difficult to waterproof, it'll be interesting to hear how you get on with this. I like that bumper, I wonder if a Milemarker would fit in it? How much was the bumper by itself?
  12. Thanks, looking for an off the shelf bolt on to keep costs down rather than a bespoke build but I'll check all those out Oh and it has to be bolt together as well as bolt in or it'll cost about £1000 just for the freight to get it here!
  13. Which engine? I don't know the answer but the 2.0 diesel is almost certainly in a different place to the V6 and the 1.6 petrol 4cyl as I know the filters and stuff are different.
  14. I've had 265 BFG MTs on my 90 (and the same set of tyres and rims on the old 90) for about two years now with no problems with muck getting in to the bead. The wheels I'm using are Freestyle alloys, I wonder if it is a particular problem with the combination of BFGs and steel modulars?
  15. I'm at the end of my tether with regard to Safety Devices as they don't seem to be bothered about answering emails at all these days and I've been waiting for quotes since bl&&dy June I know they are supposed to be restructuring but this is ridiculous.... I've just sent another email this afternoon but I don't suppose they will answer that either. So ... who else makes a similar type of bolt-in roll cage that isn't too hard to fit? I'm looking to source probably three types: 1. Double hoop internal cage for a 110SW similar to the Safety Devices RBL116SSS 2. Combined internal/external cage for a 110 or 130 Crewcab similar to RBL753SSS & RBL755SSS 3. Internal single hoop cage for a 110 Hard Top similar to RBL1155SSS All need to be bolt in kits with everything supplied, not interested in anything that needs a load of welding or fab work done. Any ideas please chaps? FWIW I don't really like any of the SD cages as I think the only effect of them if you rolled the vehicle would be that you'd smash your head open on the tubes, but they ain't for me and the customer is always right! Edited to add: UK based suppliers only please... Thanks Stephen
  16. I think all second hand Defender prices are really irrelevant anyway, condition is much more important than age or mileage, a 5 year old 20,000 mile vehicle that has been on a site all its life may well be knackered, while a 10 year old 80,000 miler might be in near mint condition.
  17. Yes here you go http://www.parkers.co.uk/pricing/used_van/ As I thought it'll cost you £2.99 though...
  18. I used to use the commercial section of Parkers but I think it is subscription only, try looking for Parkers Used Van Prices I think... haven't used it for a while
  19. Most of that sort of hose will have something scribbled on it regarding what it is safe to put through it?
  20. A bit pointless really as almost any decent winch installation would have a cutoff switch anyway
  21. All the photos I've ever seen of your cars Jules, none of the wheels are on the ground, so it probably doesn't matter what tyres are fitted?
