  1. No, I asked explorer uk when I bought Procomps but I didnt get the answer. I can recommend the procomps though. Some bilsteins are rebuildable to give you the right coefficient, all the others are sealed and are as is. Unless you go and buy the megabucks shocks of reiger or ohlins. I am a bit amazed that many springs you can buy dont actually have their springrate mentioned, so you cant compare with what you have. I mean you cant say these springs give you 2 inch lift, because it depends on how heavy your car is.
  2. I read the dutch story on a daily basis and they did have problems with the clutch. one day they started without a functining clutch and drove like this through the dunes as well, getting stuck very badly. The clutchplate got bend and could not disengage. Wonder what that startermotor looked like... Just before the finish of this stage it was the gearbox which gave up i think. they got a tow from a truck to the service park. Later they lost drive again which was the clutch once again. It seems the landrover transmission isnt really designed for a tuned TGV. Daan
  3. no to magazine or any other sponsored involvement: In my mind it is impossible to have a forum in which we can find out the full story about magazines, or cars or equipment or anyones services, when any of the traders involved sponsor it. I could see why the LRE forum went down, because the situation could just not carry on from a commercial point of view: You cant have the biggest advertiser putting 5 pages of advertisement in a magazine and then look at the forum of this magazine where everyone slags them off. So, I think it should stay as it is: independent and giving everyone a chance to explain the full story. Daan
  4. Nice set up with the spring rates: I use the same springs at the rear of mine and very pleased with that. One question: what are you trying to achieve with the shock absorber drop brackets? With the rather low spring rate you have, I would like to see a bit more bump travel, to stop it bottoming out.
  5. Thanks for that, I will think about this.
  6. bummer, I also suffer from the 3,5 tonne syndrome. Daan
  7. Hi, I understand from the link that because of the 4 wheel drive, you are still allowed to go for the class 4 test, destpite the weight. In that case there is no need for sending of your V5. Or do I miss something here? Daan
  8. Are you one of those people who believe they dont need a spare wheel?
  9. I have had mine doing this. It turned out it was the connectors to the alternator had corroded.
  10. How much? Money and weight please. Can anyone put some weights up of their wheels? You might think one kilo more is not so much, but it is always multiplied by 5. Daan
  11. Usefull facts on MOT. Thanks for the link. Daan

    DVLA

I dont think there is any way of policing this. I run a series 3 on coilsprings and with a TDI. On the registration form (UK registration), the engine number is right and so is the chassis number. Legally I can drive with this because the MOT is the piece of paper that says the car is save. I do pay road tax, however which is were the pointsystem comes into play. Also, my insurer knows what I have got, with pictures of the vehicle in detail. For this to change something for me, I think the only thing that could happen is my insurer demanding an SVA test, or the police stopping me because they can tell the car has coilsprings. I cannot see both things happening though. Daan
  13. It was brand new when I bought it, about 5 years ago, so that doesnt really tell anything I think. Would it be possible to verify which enginenumber is supposed to go with which VIN number? Daan
  14. Well, apart from changing the oil, absolutely nothing has been done to this engine. This was the whole point of buying a brand new one. Having a black box under the bonnet which I can trust. I can see where you are coming from with this comment, but I am a bit reluctant to pull it all apart just to have a look. I do have the ability, following years of fxxxing about with old shxt boxes that were dying on their feet. Daan
  15. Tony, the VIN number is from a S3, so that is no good to check this. I do have, however, the engine number: S18L23978B Can you verify What i need by this? Thanks, Daan
  16. Hello, I saw this item on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-300TDi-MO...1QQcmdZViewItem Now I have a 300 TDI and the tendency to break the cambelt due to this problem is known by most of us. mine has not been updated with the set. Spending a tenner here would be affordable. I also like the idea of not fixing something unless its broken. Or should I not loose sleep over this problem anyway? it currently has about 25.000 miles from new. Daan

    Lower gearing

Well, I fitted a S1 transfer to my S3 box and the 2.89 ratio VS 2.35 rings a bell. This is about 23% lower, only in low range. The idea of fitting some other gears to the existing case doesnot work I think, because the intermediate shaft is smaller in dia, and the casing has smaller holes in it. I believe that you cannot have the lower range with the bigger intermediate shaft, because the smaller gear wouldnot fit. Anyway, the endresult was very good for me, with a 100Hp petrol engine it was reliable for years. Daan
  19. Nice. Will you enter that landy in the outback challenge? Daan
  20. that rh one is a 300TDI sender. Daan
  21. The snow was up to the doors of my skoda this morning! great fun driving here.
  22. Trev, thats before we started. She was on its roof while setting up the prologue stages. It proved invaluable for clearing jungletracks (hence the name bull dozer), and was the most reliable car in our group. Its on volvo axles, has a 4ltr toyota diesel in it and is fitted with a PTO winch which used to be on a ship. Daan
