Dolly, I dont think parallel would work, as the oil would choose the way of the least resistance which normally is the box, untill you turn the wheel, in which case its the fan. So none of it would work anymore. Or did you have something more clever in mind. Im sure you have. Daan
  3. I am still on the original (300 tdi) version. It works well, for back up I drilled the boltheads in the water pump and the fan, so you can lockwire them in case it stops working.
  4. It was plumbed in in series with the normal Pas system, so it will see the flow (and pressure?) of the pas system. Problems: No temperature control and no pas=no cooling. daan
  5. hydraulic fan. I saw that in the last RFC on a toyota based vehicle to cool rear mounted rad. Fan was of toyota hiace van i believe. Powered by powersteering circuit. I am one of the few believers (the only one?) of good old viscous fan though but what do I know... Daan

  7. Dolly, how does that work out with your ground pressure, which you were talking about some time ago? Daan
  8. I agree with that, I bought them years ago (i think it was 1995), used them for everything on my S3, including motorway miles. They work well on mud, sand and tarmac, last a long time and there is very little noise. The blocks are a-symetrical i shape (Have a look at them and you know what I mean), which means they dont get into a vibration. Several tyres I tried and looked (like the general m/t for example) look similar but dont even come close. Especially the General, which is slightly better in mud, it is no good in sand and lasts only half the miles. In te beginning I was also beating everyone to it, when 7.50s were the fashion. Of course, these days people use simex 35s or bigger, but if I wanted an all round tyre, BFG 255/85 Mt would be my choice. Daan

  11. Andy I would remove 1 toplink and than fit the panhard. With 5 links it will be overconstrained. Daan
  12. I can ask the ricardo boys, if they got something going spare, they will build 6 engines for now, however their inherit ability to nuke might kind of make that plan optimistic.

  15. cheers, Still shows its dutch origins by having the steering wheel at the right side! The cage is not done yet, Currently I have other priorities, namely moving house. The internal cage is still in mint condition, which is the most important thing. I like the Sand colour, so kept that. You hardly see it on other cars. Yellow does look as wellgood I have to say.   19. just remove an m8 bolt from the bottom cover, the oil will come out I remember. Then continue to undo the other bolts to remove the cover, so you can have a look inside.
  20. Not sure what the point is of cutting the chassisrails of, unless you like to achieve more bump, but that is not the case here. the main rails are only 2 mm thick so I cant see the weight being an issue either. Do I miss something here?

  22. I fitted one teflon ball, and it was pretty disastrous; the teflon is not hard enough to stand up rough areas (were it is subjected to all the time when off road). It looks like it is 10 years old now, after about 1 year of use. So If you can get some chrome ones, I would prefer them every time. Daan
  23. Jez, good to see you survived. Making 12 hours a day currently, solving one problem while creating 4 at the minute, you know what its like. Fantastic pics. How do those indipendent cars hold up? I also saw some landys having tyrepressure monitoring systems. Any details? Daan

Point taken on not going to conversion hassles to fit a 2522, however there are a few more things to remember: The thicker hub puts the wheel bearings wider apart from each other, making a stronger construction. Important when running bigger wheels with big offsets. Also, there is more engagement of the flanges on the shafts, resulting in less wear. I have not felt the need to go for the special drive members because I use the old versions. Daan
