  1. You could flip the LT230 and drive it through the PTO hole. However rear engine isn't really beneficial unless all you do is go fast. For climbing offroad its useless

You'd still need to change the rotation direction. I would flip the axle upside down to get the diff on the opposite side and change the rotation. Or ditch the beam axles completely and go independant.

  2. Fitted in 2002, done RFC, Ladoga, many uk events, and many road miles. Never touched them and very pleased with them (detroit locker in the back, and true trac in the front). I don't think you can say the same from yours?

I have heard that their quality control has gone downhill over the years, which could be a reason of bad press.

  3. Always nice to hear, but not surprised, isn't Munster is an amazing place. I've a soft spot for the Netherlands too, you're from there no?

Yes, born and bred dutch. Been in the uk since 1998, and never looked back.

  4. Isn't that you?

I can send you some links to club site that'll give you all the info you need to come and visit if you like

EDIT: and there's a pay and play day on the 28th coming, in a very beautiful place near here... and here is near to the ferry :)

That was me, last year. Not going anywhere soon, and gave the last munster 4x4 event a miss, as I was a bit busy with other things....Would lik to go back to ireland again though, had a great time.

  5. Ireland and Wales. wales i have seen many times, just not this bit. Ireland I have seen, but never did any offroading there before, in the ballyhouras area. Awesome terrain:

Thinking of it now,I actually have seen one lake on the way to scotland. but we got out of the car for 1 minute and 2 harrier fighters came over at around 10 m height. Ears still ring somehow, and I have not been since.

Also, I almost went to isle of wight. We did a lap around it with an ex whitbread round the world race yacht, with blue box sailing from southampton.

Anyway Nigel, speaking of great places, how do you find holland? :SVA go away:

  6. you haven't actually said what you want to do with the car, so that's would be a start. I am a diesel man myself, so that makes for a short conversation...

There is rumour of petrol dropping to £1 again, so that's also a consideration. but, I suspect diesel will follow suit, so the difference between petrol and diesel won't change. For my use, I don't need anything big or fancy, so its a little diesel car for me, that I fill up once a month. I use the landy when I need it or when I feel like it. I presume you still have your 110?

  7. I'd sort of ruled out galvanising due to the heating and quenching it would endure. I thought that it might effect the axle cases as there are lots of different thicknesses/pressings/castings.

I dont think a 6mm axle casing will notice galvanising. if anything it will stress relieve it. you can get the best powdercoat you like, but in the end your axle cases will look exactly like they do now.

  8. I zinc plated my axle casings and suspension arms at the time, but it isn't that durable and they are now fairly rusty. If I had to do it again, I would galvanize them. without masking anything, maybe only the arms in the bores were the bushes fit. its the only thing that lasts in that environment. lets face it, a couple of strikes from a rock and it will go rusty in no time.

  9. I had a conversation with Devon 4x4 about this. They stated that it is the aromatic oil content that is the issue. The EU have some realy strict cirteria that requires manufacturers to submit tyres for testing and so on. D44 told me that interco some time used rubber with the oil in, sometimes not, but for them to comply with the EU regs would be to much hassle for the volumes sold, therefore they did not both to try and comply. End result is that they are techncially illegal to import and sell as, even if they are oil free, they will not have been certified oil free by the right boffin in the EU money grabbing machine.

I think the end user can use them. According to D44 the importer of tyres which have not been tested by the right EU boffin for aromatic compounds can be fined £5,000 per tyre -even if oil free..........

However I understand that you can import personally. Not sure if you have to only use off road. However it's easy to state that for the customs man. I have 4 of boggers that I bought to allow mock up of my (never ending) project, but no spare. I intend to just import two more when (later this century) I complete the LR. I was intending to ring round US distributors and get a price for tyres + delivery. However that may prove to be £££££.

    this is interesting though:

  10. From the pics in your build story it looks like that your current wheels only just fit inside the wheel arches, width wise, so that might be a consideration when it comes to the 'you know what' test. other than that, the 255/85/16 is a good size, and gives you plenty of wheels to choose from.
