  1. Would it not be easier to put a Defender body onto a TDV6 Disco than to put the Disco engine into a Defender?

This. At least you have independent suspension, cornering and brakes to match the engine. keep the wheelbase ( I think a disco3 is 100 inch). drop defender panels on it and a substantial rollcage to return the strength of the mocoque body and you're done.

Sounds easy doesn't it? :SVA go away:

  2. No experience with this engine, but It could be a leak in the intake somewhere. I have successfully traced this kind of thing by blocking the pipe to the air filter, pressurise the intake system with your lungs and listen if you hear any air escape from somewhere. For this to work you need complete silence. Any crack or split in a pipe is almost impossible to find just by looking at it.

  3. Hi, and welcome to the forum.

The series brakes can be adjusted by a cam bolt which is on the back of the brake backing plate; if one wheel locks up, you could also suffer from oil contamination due to a leak from the bearings.

  4. I'd echo the idea to do a cut and shut from bits of straight and bend tube, then use that as a template to bend the proper tube. Have you considered to make a lh and rh a- hoop and fit a straight tube between that? It allows you to make the cage much closer to the body, and have 6 bends in total on 2 tubes instead of 8 bends on 3 tubes. plus a notch on straight tube is always a lot easier than a notch on a bend tube (see cage in my avatar).

  5. I reckon the heystee kit , using defender kit is the best solution; I suppose you could copy that. The 845 Euro may be hard to swallow, but looking at it from a manufacturer perspective, I don't think he is making a lot on that either. From a legal perspective, there is also some come back on it which you wont have if you start welding plates to your existing knuckle.

  6. It's been out in the open, for everyone to see, and nobody wanted to bid. I suppose if it were a 90, you would have a lot more interest, I think a 130 sells to a more specific buyer.

Or maybe someone had a look at it and thought its not as described.

So the seller is taking a punt on whether it is selling. Sit back and wait!

Ebay is a bit of a 2 edged sword; there are bargains if you look for it, but there is an awful lot of garbage also.

But yes, that's a trader's business. I'd look at car auctions myself, because that is were most traders get their stock.

  7. Hi, welcome to the forum.

It looks like you have some K&N filters fitted directly to the carbs. This is common on retro fitted v8s, as the standard pipe and filter setup doesn't fit with the engine close to the bulkhead.

The other questions, not so sure, but there are plenty of people on here that know.

  8. As above, if 1 wheel waves in the air, it still works as a diff, it needs torque to make the internal friction work. a quick press on the brake pedal can make that happen.

Also if both wheels are on the ground and 1 wheels spins, that is not to say the other doesn't work, it probably receives more torque than the spinning wheel, it just has a lot more grip than the spinning wheel.

  9. Interesting, I was playing around with that calculator yesterday but never even thought to change the transmission numbers. Yes now I can see that the later LT77's 5th gears are better suited for me but at this time the nickels & dimes dictate that I'll have to make due with what I just bought. Even with that said, the new transmission/transfer case will be huge jump forward over what I have today.

    Todd.

    I told you... :)

  10. I'd go for the deflection at ride height to be the same front and rear, so if your weight distribution front to rear is 60:40, try to reflect this in the spring rates. I would not worry about the ride height just yet; get spring rates to what you like, then adjust the height to suit; either a different spring length or space it out.

You can get the sprung weight of the car quite easily, if you measure how much the springs compress and know the rate.

I would stay clear of any springs that the supplier don't tell you the rate of; how can you make a comparison if you don't know the rate?

  11. let it run till the bitter end, otherwise, its not an auction. Its false economy anyway, I always got more in the end than ending early would have given me. Is part of the 'game' that ebay is.

I do recall selling my 206 hdi with fresh mot and tax a while ago. it started at 99 pence, got 150 watchers on day one, 25 requests to end early, and went till the end for £1650, unseen by the buyer. I still cant believe it, I would never have bought it for that!
