  1. That is gallons then. I think that might be a bit on the heavy side! Or did you mean to tow it empty to site and then load it?
  2. Adrian. Tracey and i are in but i have to get the car back from Gwyns yet as he was doing a bit of wiring for me. Better arrange that soon i think! Are you supost to test between events then
  3. Are you sure it's 900 gallons and not ltrs as my maths makes that around 4ton for the water alone! at 1kilo per ltr That cant be right?
  4. Have we got an entry list yet Neil? or are you a busy man?
  5. Now fuel is a funny one in the D3 as it is so random and takes little to make a large change. 25mpg average isn't great but it will do 32 (Miss Daisy) or 15ish i hope with the trailer behind it. The roof rack was off being recoated and it made no difference at all??? It really is a bit random. They say theres more to life than MPG ....but not when the tank's empty
  6. List price with extras no problem at all!!!! Pop down to Porche or BMW and look at the extras its the biggest laugh going when you compare to the prices in mags. Discount is normal when shopping around for LR's even before the credit crunch. That goes for the dealer sevice costs as well. Shop around!!! you might be surprised.
  7. Well to put the otherside off the story. I have a D3 that i bought brand new 13 months ago now so i could get the exact spec i wanted. I bought it with my eyes wide open and have no problems loosing money on it or paying tax for it. Its the best car i have owned interms of working, towing, slobbing, lobbing muddy gear at, but when it's just been valeted it turns everyone into an Owl as it goes past (something i really dont think other makes even come close to doing) The problems with the early cars do appear to have been overcome and most problems i have had are really due to poor dealers not having a clue( the local dealer once told me to put the headrest down so that the incorrect hole in the seat could not be seen!!!!.and believe me i could tell you more of the same) but with a bit of luck the current economy might get rid of them or make them buck up there ideas as i for one am happy to travel to get the service i expect. When its out of warranty im sure Gwyn Lewis will service it to my expectations for less than the dealers ( I can see him running for cover now). The prices have taken a bigger hit than expected but if pushed i normally say it has gone down about the same as your house If you are looking for a tow car i would say now is the time to buy. Give it a quick stop past Andy from Allisport as im told this works well and enjoy the bargain you have bought. When you have to pay to fix it don't complain about the cost as you have just bought a car that might have cost 60K new for 10-15K so were you expecting fiesta repair bills?
  8. Now im not known for my great memory but i recall that the input gear/oil feed is changed. The timing gear would be updated and im sure there are a few tweeks along the way that someone that is sat at home in the snow will tell you the date changes of.
  9. Ok if you Disco was made on a Friday afternoon in Dec. 1997 and by some strange, scrub that, and by no strange reason as its a Landrover it has no indicators on the top lights. May i be so bold as to suggest that it is a simple, and in my hummble opinion, worth while job to change them for some that do off another Disco from what ever day/month/year (easy just to say 200tdi) If you are unsure about the current light set up can you not just look at the lamps ( a bulb is something you plant in the garden!) to see whether they are 5/21w etc?
  10. Correct. I assume its a 300tdi. Most people upgrade by changing the upper lights for those off a 200tdi. A worthwhile and relatively simple job that increases the visibility of your rear
  11. This is a well documented problem for some with various solutions/opinions as to the cure it/help it /ignore it route to go down. I think the bottom line is it is pretty much normal wear and tear on a box and can be helped as stated by changing the oil. Some use fully synthetic from difflock and i think i recall i used mtf 75 from Landrover but i do forget most of the finer details these days( i now claim that there is so much info in my head that some off it is spilling out hence i forget )so you best check the grade! A bit of sympathy goes a long way on a cold engine/box and most will continue for long after you have past careing. I also recall that the 98 300tdi is the best of the bunch with all the upgrades/mods having been done by that age including the transfer box. You should indeed have an R380!
  12. I notice you are now sorted but for ref. the landrover winches still come as standard with a steel Hawse and steel cable(D3 XP) So i would have thought Landrover would sell them or any Warn dealer as they are Warn winches

    18" D3 Wheel

HSE's come with a full spare as standard, all others are an option. Ask about a spare on disco3.co.uk or have a look on ebay as a lot come up on there.
  14. Well another thank you, to all teams, organisors, marshalls and sponsors, as with any one component missing it all falls apart. Bit of a poor year for us due to breakages. This event proved no different when we lost drive to the rear and had to come off the punch and retire early on. The good point is that it gave us another chance to walk around and see everyone else working hard. Tracey is thinking about ducking out next year but keeps changing her mind so i may be in the market for a new co-driver or then again i may not!!!! Time will tell. Any offers please contact me.See you all next year.
  15. No need to apologise. Just happy to be able to make it. I think you might have give Gwyn a fright though.
  16. Shame you wont be there as i know how frustrating it is to miss rounds. Im also looking at removing some of the weight from the front of my car over the winter but the shape im in at the moment im thinking i might achieve this by moving my seat back a couple of inches
  17. You can make one from a bit of flat bar with a square cut out using an angle grinder (both are things most Landrover owners have lying around) about 30cm long and just give it a tap round with a hammer to slacken the nut. Dont forget the thread turns the wrong way!
  18. Thats the thing with these old blokes. They have all the time in the world to chat
  19. I have no space to wash mine at home so i have to use the local jet washes and keep moving around to different ones so no one complains costs me a small fortune but it does come off better if it is still wet.
  20. Neil, FYI i shall be doing this event with Gwyn Lewis in my own truck if you can update. Thanks JF.
  21. Well i think im going to scare a few spiders as i think i can make it to this one.
  22. I see you seem to have gone off them already but if it helps you feel any better our Coms Dept use Toughbooks offshore and don't rate them at all but it is a harsh enviroment out here.
  23. I had the same problem on a 300 of mine and i was convinced that it had oil pressure as i knew it's history etc. I changed the sender and the thermostat at the same time and it never did it again. I dont know if a 200 has a thermostat though? May i suggest you borrow a pressure gauge to put on it to have a look.
  24. Well its looking like i shall have to scrap this one as well as im expecting an e mail any time now to say im working. Sorry NAJW for the short notice but thats the nature of the beast.
