    disco 4

I think it does as I recall asking about fitting winch etc as it was not in the parts book yet but I could be and often am wrong! ask on disco3.co.uk there is a section for D4.
  2. Errr like my Tracker wasn't working But if you mean in the full meaning of your question 1: From an individual point of view very lucky indeed! 2: If i was an insurance company, very lucky indeed! Errrr kind of think you missed my point If you have been insured based on the information that you gave them and that information says you have a Tracker fitted then should we say for example that the Tracker was not working eg you have asked them to switch it off for servicing or because it kept on giving false alarms then i simply suggest you might have a problem. As an example my system did have a problem about 2 years ago and it kept on giving false alarms, every time the car moved, this prompts a phone call to myself from the operators. The system operators wanted to turn the system off until repair but at my insistance left it on as i was unsure about the insurance issue. I now notice 2 years on that if i ring and ask them to disable the system for any reason they now Quote to me an obviously scripted response about it may invalidate my insurance. That shows what has changed in 2 years. I have no intention in getting into an argument about how great your insurance is compared to mine as i hope i never have to find out if you win or loose! Simply pointing out the buyer beware. Take it or leave it its your choice and your money. For myself im more than happy that im sorted thanks.
  3. It would appear there are more thieves out there than you think! The cost of the Tracker is picked up by yourself, the insurance company offer a very dubious small discount that then allows them to impose another excuse into your policy as to why your claim might just be rejected when your pride and joy is stolen (which you probably take great care of or you wouldn't have bothered fitting a Tracker at your own expense). To rub a little salt into the wound, when your Tracker equipped vehicle is found in an industrial building/container along with half a million pounds worth of non Tracker equipped vehicles, the insurance company must just rub their hands with pure delight,at the gift horse you have just given them,of course at your expense. I do have a Tracker fitted to own car but cannot wait for the day when some brighter person than me takes the insurance company's to court for a percentage of the recovered cost of the other vehicles found due to your own Tracker,as after all that information as to where your car is belongs to you and not them.
  4. Really depends on what you use it for. I never fitted any on the D3 as they get damaged off road, especially the front ones which sit lower. This is no problem for me for as you say spraying a bit of cr*p out the back gets tailgaters off your ass.(If you cant see past because of the spray on the motorway then slow down or back off as your missing the point) The down side is we live in a rural location and within 30 seconds of any rain the car looks like it has never been washed from new. If you live in a city you will not really believe just how dirty it gets and how quick. Im sure mud flaps would help this and am now considering fitting some to the rear only as a half way fix. So it is really up to you and how/where you use your car.
  5. Think your right to ask as there are new ones out there but i think they are about £500 so a bit rich for me as the "old" ones work fine. I think the new ones do 4 way if you are doing team events but that would be 1k for two sets. Ouch.Thought the old ones were about £200 from Gwyn Lewis but i try to forget.
  6. I ran some smaller cage pipe through the cab on the passenger side and covered it in heat proof blanket. I put as many bends as i could in the pipe but assembly dictated that it is made in three sections,i think, and joined with flexible hose. This is in my discovery so there may be room to run it under a 90 as it has a deeper chassis. This was a temp job and i always intended to replace the pipe with something lighter but it has given me no problems yet so it is still on my list!I had to take the thermostat out (300 tdi) as it would not flow water with it in for some reason? Again i intended to come back to this but it has given me no problems so best left alone.
  7. Well I can only say that jim has always given me good service as an early convertor of his products. A few things have gone wrong but that's what happens with development and I have had various free upgrades posted out to me as the product has developed. Jim can come across as being a southern git at times but that's not his fault as they are all like that! John Fair
  8. which begs the question why do people build cars that appear to be in one class but are built to compete in a lower class?
  9. What you should really ask is, "Have you actually tried any other rope bar the one you think is great?" or "was it a mate of a friend that walks his dog near the pub that i sometimes drink in!!!" The new Marlow for me as it has proved to be cost effective in terms of the increased use i now get out of it.It also gives me great confidence in its ability and i dont think you can put into words what a difference that makes..but i have to disagree with the fact that you can fit more on the drum by downsizing as first, doesn't that just put you back to where you were before you upgraded, and second most people do not believe that my rope is 12mm as it looks to be about 14-15mm and hence you have to be very verbal to your winch person to look after it as it goes back on the drum. I can only assume that the 11 or 10mm must be the same in its increased visual size but i don't know that as a fact. Could it be that others have a problem with a tape measure and dare i suggest that some could be lost in conversion from imperial to metric or in how you really measure the diameter of a rope as i have tried and failed.
  10. My how easy i forget things these days but Kerosene is indeed your answer if it turns out to be waxing.(Too many years driving petrol tankers) Many people forget about wind chill when they look at the freezing point and as stated by someone else many tanks in farms etc are only filled twice a year and may indeed be full of summer grade derv. I cannot remember the temp that kero freezes at but it is low enough to not worry about in this country. Look it up on google under kerosene, avgas, jet a1, paraffin etc .The only down side is it has no lube in it and burns hotter as i recall so dont fill it up with kero just put in about 10%. PS this is illegal due to the duty paid on it
  11. Saley, You are right the state of lane 1 on the motorway is the cause of most concern, as you stated the car bobs in and out opposite to the trailer.Funny how they will spend a fortune prosecuting a dangerous driver but the road maintenance department can do as they wish....the daftest sign i have ever seen says uneven road surface???? Why not just fix it...but having said all that you might be surprised at the number of people with their tow ball set at the wrong height, especially with an Ifor Williams trailer, which if i remember correct sits higher than most others. You have to use the multi height tow bar on the newer range of Landrovers as the removable one is at the wrong height. As a point of interest if you look for the D4 towing stability program on u tube im pretty sure that it is towing an ifor on the removable tow hitch, which is why it probably snakes in the first place!?!?!? I reserve the right to be wrong . You could always just buy... The worlds most expensive towing stabiliser..comes with a free car...Discovery 4
  12. Haggis supper and deep fried mars bar. It's the way forward. The points system would level it a lot I supose but only if vehicles are built in the spirit of the class system. I say that quite openly in the knowlege that I consider my own vehicle to be border line but it is t m and INS. Building a space frame c3 vehicle for example with 45 inch tyres and no weight but a windscreen and a reverse pull system winch is not in my own humble opinion in the spirit of c3 and the same goes for c2. Having said that it's not my comp it's yours and you may do as you see fit. I shall support whatever comes along as I was only asking your thoughts.
  13. Well i have just had a look and the highest c3 car was 8th. This does kind of bring me to my point that every other class lives in the shadow of the overall winner,as no one ever looks, when there is little chance of them ever winning overall. This is a little undeserved as im sure the team involved fought hard for that placing!!!!! I bet you could tell me who won overall though and a well deserved win it was to.
  14. That's a fair point James. I was just wondering what was in the future as I can only really see it going one way in the long term. That's evolution and I'm never going to stand in it's way
  15. Neil, Do you think there will be a time in the future where the overall winner will be dropped in favour of simply class winners? Im only wondering this, as this is one of the few series that has regular and hopfully increased numbers of space frame vehicles. I like these vehicles and can see it is the way forward but in the real world, and excluding breakdowns etc, they are now becoming increasingly impossible to keep up with. This brings me nicely back to my first question of what will be the point in having an overall winner when it will just be the same as the current class one winner? As a class 2 competitor i find it simply excludes you from any form of victory as everyone, myself included, only ever looks at who wins overall. I honestly could not tell you without looking who won class 1,2 or 3 and i cannot be alone!!!! Im sure the winners of all classes would like a slice of the pie? If the point in having classes is because the vehicles are so different from a competitive point of view then how could a class 3,in the spirit of its original interpretation, vehicle ever expect to win overall.(yes i know you are going to tell me that some events have been one by class three vehicles but this will without doubt be a thing of the past)
  16. I use a Mocal oil/water cooler as it gives you greater packaging options. They are no more or less effective than others and you can cover then in crud.
  17. Just a quick thank you as i have been a bit busy.To all the organisers and co and to Rob Jones and Kevin Moss for stand in team duties often at short notice,Boothy for the ever funny antics,John Sales for finishing behind us Regards John Fair
  18. Lord help me i keep getting worse
  19. Well if saley still has my wide angle prop on the reason it was spare on my tailer is because it has a tight uj that i had not got around to changing yet So when he reads this at 5.30am you know what he will be doing
