  1. Well thats interesting and just shows how there is no definative answer to your question, but more dependant on your aplication as i have found the exact oposite to the above. I started using them on my motorbike as the standard bmw set up had a wooden feel to them if it was wet on the motorway and you braked for a Q etc. The EBC Green removed that feeling comletely, hence i use them on my off road Landrover as i suspect they work better in the wet conditions. I freely admit that i cannot "feel" any difference but then an off road car doesn't really have the feed back of an on road motor bike.
  2. Just spent most of the day hoovering out the inside of the car to keep Mark the scrutineer happy. It has been a fantastic sunny day for working on the drive and im pretty chilled. All this talk of milage makes me envious though as every event we go to is about 500m round trip.Oh and it shall be Tracey's birthday on the Sunday of the event.....she's a lucky girl and Gwyn keeps on telling me that i have no idea how lucky i am to have her
  3. Anyone going to this show that has a windscreen for a 300tdi disco? That is the bonded type and is different to the early 200 tdi type. JF
  4. Thank you also to Gary and John for the time spent getting us out a big hole! and also to the two gents in the white suzuki as we used your very well placed ground anchor without asking!!! We only wanted an inch or two and were so quick you probably never noticed So many good people.
  5. First off thanks to all involved in making this event happen. A most enjoyable event for myself and Tracey and i was happy with the results as Tracey has been out of it for a while now. Bit annoyed at being beaten by those two blokes in the blue 90. Not sure of there names but i think it might be "Old Man" and "Emu". The pictures show several good reasons to be wearing a helmet as well as the unexpected as Tracey bounced her head of something that hard that she had to sit down for a min to gather her thoughts! I thought that you were on the entry list Gordon but you must have changed your mind. You should have taken a monent to introduce yourself.
  6. If you have a front steering gaurd (ie snow plough type) you can easily make your own by drilling a hole in the triangular end plate for mounting one end of the damper and using a bit of angle iron and a couple of u bolts drilled and clamped to the front drag link to mount the other end behind your steering gaurd. I used this method for several years and never damaged it.
  7. As said its chalk and cheese. I use copper and have been saved and troubled by it. I was saved when something got caught in it and it pulled in a very very very large loop away from the rear axle but did not break and finnished the day. At the last event i snapped a front pipe where it had work hardened next to the front caliper. This was my own fault completely as i had noticed it going hard where i had removed the caliper various times for maintenance and had it down for replacement but for some reason unknown to me i never got around to it
  8. Odd not from where i was sitting as i saw at least one hook with no clasp
  9. I notice the James has had a bollocking for not "shouting" clear to winch at the last event and so did we. The rules are the rules and we have no problems with that but things do move on and rules become obsolite do they not? eg( plasma rope and winch sails is always a hot topic). It just made me wonder what other everyone's thoughts are as here are mine. Not right or wrong just my thoughts... I was told that the co driver had to shout CTW not just say it into the mike as we are using coms as are most people now. When ask'd why so was told it was for spectators not me. This cannot be right i always understood it as an instruction to me ie you are CTW from where i am if your clear at your end then carry on. Why does a spectator need to know im CTW. If you are sugesting that it allows them to get out the way then that has two points to it. 1. Im clearly not CTW and the co driver and myself are blind (quite possible that a blind spot exists from where we are both sat but the co driver has in effect walked the rope out.) 2.Mrs Smith that is out walking her dog and has NO interest in my hobby and is letting her dog eat my rope and cannot see me or the co driver hears a shout of CTW , understands what that means , and moves sharpish. Seems unlikely to me. If we are using coms just talking CTW seems ok to me. If you listen at most events now there is very little shouting going on compaired to the past. Thoughts please..........
  10. Western thanks for the pics as that helps. It looks to me like i was correct in remembering that i had removed the auto sender so that only leaves the Transfer sender. The bad news is that it now makes no sense to me as to why i can over cool the engine and make the Transferbox cool down??? Heat sink from the auto perhaps?? I do tend to leave the Underdrive in at all times and just shift the Transfer from high to low and i am aware that the Underdrive creates a lot of heat but not as quick as the last event thats for sure. Where is young Mr Ashcroft as i would like to hear his thoughts on this? Boothy you may notice the post time on this. That is because i cannot sleep anymore due to your nasty comments...... You have ruined my life
  11. Thanks for the replys. The hand brake switch etc works fine and is in the cab at the bottom of the ratchet. It looks like the temp light comes on in conjunction with the brake stop light which makes sense as it is telling you to stop. Does anyone know where the temp sensor is on the auto box as it looks like it must be faulty. I thought i had removed it along with the front oil cooler pipe.
  12. First of i shall appologise for to much info but it is better than not enough. I have a warning light that comes on the dash that is the low brake fluid /handbrake light combined with a small light above it that looks like a temp gauge with an ! mark. I assume this to be the gearbox temp warning light? The car was a 300tdi Discovery on an L plate and is running a ZF4HP22 auto box coupled to a LT230/1.6 Transfer box and an underdrive all rebuilt by Dave. The auto box is cooled through a Laminova oil to water cooler fitted just after the cab heater. The engine is an ACR challenge spec 300tdi and the radiator is in the back with an electric cooling fan.I thought that the temp sensor for the auto box had been removed as i thought it was in the origional front mounted oil cooler pipes but perhaps that was for something else? The overheat light has been coming on recently and i personally do not believe it is true as at the last event it came on straight after the start when the car had only been running for 3-4mins and had done no work. Running up the engine cooling fans so that the temp gauge sits in the blue cold band all day stops the warning light from coming on and i believe the water temp gauge to be correct as this makes the cab heater run almost cold. I have just looked in the manual and it looks to me like the car also has a Transfer box temp sensor fitted but if so this would have no connection to the fact i can put the warning light out by over cooling the engine? Would it? Could it be that some debris has got into the Laminova and is restricting flow or is there a temp sensor that is faulty on the auto and if so where is it fitted?. What was the sensor that i took off the front from the cooler pipes then? Any other thoughts to be taken on board?
  13. I think we went wrong when we went into THE VALLEY right at the start. Reminded me why you dont go to the post office on pension day. 4 hours and 5 punches later we lost the will to live and came out. The only worst experience was south mimms on the way down. That reminded me why i moved to the country. The post office ref is about the q by the way not adrians age or the aroma. It did give us the chance to witness some nice driving by young kevin after i had read all the literature neil had provided in the waiting room.
  14. Come on we know the real answer as tracey said when she put the bacon on you came back 4 times.
  15. I think that was the Queens English Nobby
  16. Congratulations to jim for 1st . Sorry cant remember 2nd and gwyn for 3rd. Thanks to ALL group A marshals, competitors, wife's, girlfriends and others as i enjoyed the support and spirit of our group. I am 100% gutted and at a loss about coming last as we had no DNF's, broke absolutely nothing and did every stage???? I shall be back next year for revenge on gwyn and hopefully a clearer understanding and better game plan.
  17. As above Head set is great but i have to say the helmet is heavy... oh er
  18. If you pm a del add i shall send you the one off my old rear bumper. Put some money in a charity box.
  19. Also doing the challenge. 1st time there so know nothing about it. Can we arrive late thurs and camp over?
  20. I would worry more about taking some spare cash than the standard of driving as italy is a bit like europe 15 years ago in that you struggle to find cash machines /petrol stations / toll booths that will take your card and it becomes a bit annoying. Thats not to say its a really big problem just not something that is a problem in the rest of europe where card use is as easy and common as the uk. It can quickly burn a hole in your cash if you fill the car up a couple of times and have to pay out your pocket.
  21. May i suggest you seek the help of a professional company and ask the right questions as the tracker on my car takes very little to set it off and have them on the phone. I have even set it off messing with the front winch on my drive. I have every confidence in its ability to do what it says on the box.
  22. Anyone know who this chap is as i want the money back that i gave him to let Gwyns tyres down
  23. She was around for most of the day with my camera with a long lens on. The only trouble with that is it can be a bit dark in the trees and you then get a bit of blur.If you put the big flash on it it is to heavy to carry around all day for fun but it is good for sneeking up on people I take it this was your overheating moment as she said you both exploded out the car rather sharpish did you think it was on fire?
