  1. Haha ya git..... I am happy with the drive definately, learnt heaps, really pleased, excellent type of event Now all I need to do is re-locate my 2 rear springs and fix the steering, oh and the nasty, nasty vibration from the front From there.... uprated steering bar and relocate the damper somehow, and will probably fabricate some dislocation devices for the rear.... oh.... I see now how people end up spending so much money on these damn things
  2. Haha yeah, I will get caught out again and again and again..... I am sure..... but that's the only way to learn
  3. Ah that bit that the Rangie managed OK?
  4. Ah yes...... heck even *I* managed to get across that river OK
  5. Just got back home after a great day out, many thanks to James for organising, and all the helpful advice from the various other people who all know *FAR* more than me. I did far more than I expected to be honest, with the Rangie being surrounded by six 90's... I felt a bit outnumbered, but they are all Land Rover at the end of the day Only one minor issue, after following Tim down after one of the long drops.... I manged to do this on a conveniently placed tree stump: No wonder I had steering problems! Made it back OK though. One photo, which was a bit of an accident, but considering it was taken during the daytime it looks quite interesting: Once again, thanks for the great day, hopefully see you all again soon! Peter.
  6. Looks like it will be another cold one Got your heater fixed James?
  7. The paddock one with hi lift points and recovery eyes is a 3-in-1 for very little money tbh.
  8. If its a front axle, and you flip it, and you have already rotated it in the horizontal plane.... it should drive the right way, shouldn't it?
  9. This is an excellent site/forum: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/
  10. If you get the speakers the wrong way round, you end up with no bass.....
  11. Just take a piece of wood slightly longer than the width between the chassis rails and hit it into place..... no need for wedges etc.
  12. *IF* you use it on road, watch the speed rating
  13. Yep.... the hoses etc expand more than the water does, so pretty normal.
  14. I am tempted..... only an hour or so from me, and would be good to see the differences compared to the Wellington site....... Send me a form would ya James -will decide over Christmas
  15. Looks fantastic, some really nice pics there too, the frostiness is gooooood Roll on Jan 4th!
  16. Front offside chassis leg?
  17. Funnily enough I fixed mine today! oooh toasty warmness
  18. Better for the tree to give way than either the chassis or bumper
  19. It's the height that does it, as it increases the torque applied to the transmission -where a small wheel would allow the vehicle to accelerate more quickly(or slip) as it is effectively lower geared, the larger one with need more power to get going -this is what breaks axles/halfshafts etc. Also, large wheel = more grip = less chance of spinning the wheel in low range when most torques is applied. First gear + low range + big tyres + heavy right foot = bang
  20. If you don't go much over 33" then you won't have to change anything -over that is where you start straining stuff too much..... Don't get 35" monsters -remember you have no power steering, without this you will look like the incredible hulk after a week of normal driving on the road..... A series likes to wander on standard tyres, can you imagine it on 35" ones with stock suspension Too big again and you start to lose steering lock which makes it WORSE off road..... If you don't want a very complicated life for the sake of a set of big tyres, get soemthing equivalent to the old 7.50x16s from the LWBs, 235/85/16 is the metric equivalent I think, they are more than enough, and you will only have to adjust your steering stops a little bit to get them to stop rubbing.
