  1. Driving my mates 110 TD5, Iam sure I can hear a 'clock' ticking. He has changed almost everything on the vehicle except the engine itself. Anything I should be looking for?
  2. Bought some tires off an auction and only when home I realized that the center opening (Where the hub pokes through) is too big for a Defender. This one is 13 cms across, or 5.1 inch in 'old money' Anyone know which 4x4 these wheels would fit? Tire size is 33x12.50R15 BFG AT
  3. Stealing a bit of thread, but does anyone have names and numbers of 'good' breakers in the South, Kent area?
  4. Is it an original Defender 200tdi or a replacement Disco one?
  5. I re-used the old headliner 'boards' and re-surfaced it with stretchable fabric. If you want to glue anything to the roof, make sure your glue can take the heat of being fried by the sun's rays beating onto the other side of the roof. I had to change the fabric twice because of using the wrong glue. As I re-used the headliner, I thought it was best to brush a silicone roof sealant against the inside of the roof, to prevent the condensation building up there. (This is what causes the stream of water hitting your leg in the morning coming from the inside of the gutter.) Had no issues with this ever since. Good luck.
  6. Yes, but there is the need to fit a different downpipe...
  7. LHD axle casings should be the same as RHD axle casings. It's the bits on the ends that are different
  8. Well, I have had the drums off the rear to change the wheel bearings (Needed done, but not on their way out yet) and I re-adjusted the rear shoes to the original position. I will slacken them off a little and see if that makes a difference. Will also check whether the fronts are binding, but I doubt that, as I renewed the calipers and pads. Guess it's back under the vehicle for me then...
  9. Replaced my rear bearings and it seemed to be fine. Now again, I hear a howling noise... still coming from the rear. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH Any clues?
  10. Well, had a surprise this morning trying to corner. The steering wheel did not want to turn as happily as usual. It seems that at times the steering is much heavier than others. On another note, I have a strange low howling noise from the rear, after the vehicle has driven for about 15 minutes and is warmed up. It goes away when I rest my foot on the brake pedal (Which I do not intend do continuously...) It is a 110 TD with a Disco 200 engine.
  11. Check with a Spanish Defender owner. The Type approval numbers are country specific so not many UK Defender owners would be able to help you out. I am sure Land Rover Spain would be able to though... I have a Belgian Type number stamped into the Vin plate. I guess that was done after import, as the type number is a different 'font' as the SALL number. Good luck
  12. Like it says on the tin... Are there any in the Kent area? I am looking to rebuild my 110, and am in need of some (About 80%) of the parts...
  13. Ratios the same for all standard 110s
  14. In Belgium you are not allowed to put Non-Land Rover engines into any Land Rover product IF you want to make the vehicle roadworthy. Also, the suspension should be 'stock' or near stock. There are tolerances allowed, but you'd be surprised by the limitations. Check the Belgian Land Rover Forum for more information regarding the Belgian version of the MOT, the dreaded 'keuring'.
  15. Having a slight issue... Had the vehicle in for service and asked the guy to check the rear diff as it rumbles on overun (Mostly when I have no force on the drivetrain, most notably between 4th and 5th) He has had the Salisbury diff pan off to check the crown wheel and pignon for play, and he also adjusted the play in the transfer box. Before brining it in, I had changed the flanges and half shafts... RUMBLE is still there.... AARRRRRgggggghhh Not amused! Anyone has other points I could check out before I go totally mad?
  16. I did not fit the turbo, as the problem disappeared... Might have been a lazy turbo, as I drove it quite hard after buying the 110
  17. Check the breather on the OD unit as well. I ad a similar issue, which was linked to a blocked OD breather pipe.
  18. I mailed them a couple of months ago, as I was looking at the same issue (Which resolved itself nicely by the way...) for my 110 with Disco 200Tdi I got this email: Seems that if you have the Disco 200Tdi manifold, you do not need the additional manifold. The VNT does fit, but sits lower, necessitating a new manifold for Defender 200Tdi and all 300Tdis. Also, you'd be looking at a new downpipe.
  19. It also means that whatever the people fill in should be reasonable. To take the previous location of a certain moderator (Third rock from the Antarctic), or mine for that instance Mainland Europe, mostly)... Not very descriptive. So if you ask people to fill out their profiles and locations, you should force them to enter 'real' data. Which on a free forum is not an obvious thing to do... I am all for it, but it needs a change of mind set, starting with myself actually
  20. ... Or buy a 110 Sorry, could not resist
  21. And what about the standard steering lock? Should be quite hard to break through as well, no?
  22. AFAIK the lean was to compensate a full tank of Petrol/Diesel and the driver on top. Just another Land Rover 'standard lean' I believe... I had parabolics which were 'handed' as well. Did make up for some of the lean, but you'll have to live with some lean in the end. I do not recall the brand of parabolics though....
  23. Depending on where you are, you'll might get issues regarding MOT or similar. You are going from Euro3 to 'Euro?' by fitting that engine. Why not sell the 3.9 and fit an autobox behind the TD5?
  24. Single purple usually is the positive feed after ignition. And the dash lights should only be on at the same time the rest of the lights are on. There are Defenders which have a switch to turn off the dash lights should you not want them on whilst driving.
  25. You guys should be happy. On the continent the roadtax rates are much higher. (Netherlands up to 1500 pounds for a 110, Belgium around 750 pounds) And all that for the exclusive right to stand in line on the motorway every morning and evening...
