  1. Thanks Lewis. Just after i typed the OP i remembered the washer bottle, but totally forgot about the horn! Yes i have TD5 harnesses so they are separate. Cant be bothered taking off the econoseals from the main harness as they are already all loomed up. Bit of short-sightedness on my part when i was doing the main harness. Glad you reminded me of the horn though!
  2. After seeing the cost of wing harnesses im planning on making myself some custom harnesses. Seeing as im unable to access my RAVE these days i was wondering if someone could tell me what connectors are involved. As far as i can tell i will need econoseal connectors (to connect to main harness) and connectors for headlights, front indicators and side repeaters. Is there anything obvious ive missed considering this will be the opportunity to upgrade headlight wiring?
  3. Given that its twin turbo and using monumental amounts of fuel (going by the amount of thick black smoke) im actually surprised it isnt producing more power. Its not just turbo lag causing the smoke as even when you hear it spooled up and revving, its still rolling coal... If a Cummins 6BTA had compound turbos and that amount of diesel being chucked in, it would be making about 1000hp. That being said it will be a little lighter than a Cummins. But who cares about a little weight
  4. I guess theres pros and cons for both options. However the only con i can think of regarding the all new sub-section would be the fact that it would need moderated. And there hasnt been any shortage of offers there..... It would also have the benefit of weeding out the old tech articles that annoyingly lack pics now as Ross referred to.
  5. I think were in danger of over thinking this gentlemen. A few people including myself have offered our time to oversee the sub-section. I have no problem with members PM'ing me with possible contributions. Yes it will be dependant on members coming forward but it is a public forum after all. The mods are spread fairly thin as it is. Especially in certain sections. Adding to their workload isnt smart.
  6. I agree with you up to a point. The thing is it, matters very much where they are located. How many modifications are out there (somewhere) that you've never heard of? All because there hidden in a thread that you had no interest in reading. As i said previously i had no idea whatsoever about the flex brake line mod until i stumbled blindly on it. If there was a dedicated modification (not maintenance) section, i would have known all about it. I feel that a lot of people, especially newbies would benefit greatly from this
  7. I would be more than happy to moderate any new sub-section. I have a fair bit of time on my hands just now and for the forseeable future. Seems only fair seeing as it was my idea. I certainly dont want to add to the already heavy workload that the A&M team have already. Just letting you know the offer is there.
  8. But therein lies the problem. I just happened to notice that little modification as it was buried in a thread that happens to be of interest to me. How many great modifications lie hidden in the threads i havent read as they hold no interest for me?If there was a separate section, that particular mod could be listed there, easy for everyone to peruse.
  9. Thats why i cant see it. I have a custom made engine harness thanks to PaulMc..
  10. That being the case, it looks like i can just cut the bmw-type connector off and take pin1 directly to starter. Thanks guys.
  11. Maybe thats a good reason to make it a separate entity?
  12. hahaha!I wouldnt mind it being within the tech archive so long as it was a separate section if you know what i mean. As has been mentioned the tech archive seems to be geared more towards general maintenance/repairs. Would be very useful to have a separate modification section i feel.
  13. Thanks for that. Where does C0203 come from as i dont seem to see it anywhere?
  14. Fair do's guvnor What do you think of the idea though?
  15. Since my laptop spat its dummy ive been forced to use an ipad recently which means i dont have RAVE to hand. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the connector C0449 is connected to, and what colour wires are housed within it. Vehicle concerned is Defender TD5. I have custom wiring going on as im running megasquirted rv8 etc. I know i need to take 1 of the wires in C0449 to the starter but cant remember which one.....
  16. Just an idea maybe worth considering? I was reading through Sams axle rebuild thread recently and came across his brake pipe modification whereby he fitted a stainless flexi brake pipe rather than the copper pipe to the front calipers to make certain jobs a lot easier. This is a great little mod that i never thought of, and only stumbled across it by chance as i was reading his axle thread, and im left wondering are there loads of other little great mods that are hidden within unrelated threads? I know we already have the tech archive, but would it be worthwhile having a list of these modifications in 1 place where it would be easy to find them? Im ready with my hat, coat and gloves too if this seems like a daft idea
  17. Ive noticed 2 studs on the bulkhead in the engine bay, more or less just underneath where the loom goes through the bulkhead on the drivers side. Cant put up a pic as i cant find the lead for my phone. Will these be where the TD5 Inertia Switch is fitted? Also, i have an earth header connector that needs to be fixed to bulkhead somewhere. Could i use one of the aforementioned studs for this as well?
  18. Nice. Maybe even a few empty bottles lying around with "toxic" on them for effect....
  19. Good spot Barry. Top left hand corner in 1st pic
  20. Bloody hell Dave. Bet that gave you a start! First ive seen a Record let go like that!
  21. mmmwwahahaha! As for how long they will last? Pot luck id say..
  22. Thats true. To an extent. As a YZF1000 owner, i can assure you that even the best of chains stretch at an alarming rate if theres decent power going through them.. I reckon with a strong engine those portal chains would be delivering backlash very quickly
  23. Finally got round to replacing wiper motor. Problem solved. There is still a slight tick every sweep, but nothing that i think you'd hear when driving.. Happy days.. On with the rest of the dash build up
