  1. Well done Ralph. Plus I'm up for the next w/e. 16th/17th/18th.
  2. I've got a simonr x-eng doofer, and it is well easy to fit, ANYONE can do it.
  3. I don't really care which lives or dies to be honnest, I'll just follow the masses. Its the people more than which forum.
  4. I like the new freshness. I think this should be considered the upgrade. Like orrp was from EZ-Board to SMF. All the archive remained, but you got all the functionality and freshness of the new board. I think my rear winch post proves that, I found loads of pictures and info on them in the LRE forum, yet I still prefer the newness of here. Geoff, Les and everyone have done a great job of here. Trev you have done well in a tricky situation on saving an important archive. I appreciate you have had some serious stick off some of your 'friends' and you were only trying to help. It takes a big man to "arse kiss" someone like RG, for the benefit of all of us, especially when you are drawn out as a traitor, when clearly you are not. Thank you for saving the archives. I do think we should keep everyone in one place, and that should be over here, and we can all relax and have fun, and lock and save LRE as a vital archive. Cheers folks, Keef.
  5. Cheers much will. Don't worry, I know my limitations, and I won't be welding it. Got a welder and plasma cutter round at Mid Cornwall4x4 so I'll probably get it done there when the time comes. I bet there is some weight in that setup though!
  6. Foglight position is strictly controlled. I was under the impression that Spotlights can only be used in pairs, and shouldn't be higher than the bonnet really. I'm sure there is a set height, that is not well publisised. Also, if you vehicle is post 1986, only 55w bulbs can be used for on road use. The usual rule of mustn't come on without main beam is true. They are well handy though when driving down duel carriageways at night though. Found it made the journeys much less draining on the eyes.
  7. Looks relatively simple... anything to watch out for?
  8. Cunning plan there! Well of to find a Husky.... Ralph wanna sell yours?
  9. Cheers for the info. Well I think the way forward is the Southdown guard and a bit of welding (A la Will Warne Style!). I like the way Nige's comes over the top of the rear x-member. That'd not be possible with a husky as you mounted the MM on its side I think. I want to run string on the back rather than wire, so I'm guessing Husky rather than cheapo, or are there any other winches such as that that you can let out on with out them getting hot, that are a sensible price s/h?
  10. After seeing Robs rear winch in action, I'd like to fit one to my truck just for fun. I'm thinking that I don't want it to occupy too much of the load space, since I use that for the tescos run and such like. So what are the options open? I'm only looking at fitting a cheapo winch or something fifth-hand husky'esk. I'm not in the market for an 8274 or such. So it can either be mounted just by the mid bulkhead, (I'm also thinking hard top one day, so if it is load bed mounted, it needs to get through the rear door) or more likely somewhere in the depths of the chassis. Fabrication is not my strong point, but I know a good welder, and the rear cross member is a tad ropey so might be an ideal time to get two things done at the same time. If anyone wants to post pictures and instructions, feel free! This is more just a drawing board then a reality at the moment, so no need for too much effort! Anyway, gotta sort the engine out at some point too! Cheers muchly, Keef.
  11. Here are a couple of laning pics that Jon & DD took of our laning! Cheers much to everyone for a great weekend. Tony & Val great hosts and a top gathering. Rob & Fi for allowing Jenny and me to Monkey for them. Rob: the phone is still working after its waterproofing test. Although all my bank cards and cash I had in my wallet are also covered in mud. Been getting some odd looks in shops these last couple of days as bamton mud crops up at the sales desks. Cheers also to Chris for the expedition. Jenny says hi to everyone and ta for making her feel so welcome. Roll on 7 sisters!
  12. I was after buying advice for a Discovery, so thought I'd check out what was being said about them on the old interweb.
  13. I run BFG MTs 255/85/16 on Wolf Rims. On a standard 90. Only prob is right wheel rubs on radius arm when on hard right lock. Quick twiddle with the stops sorts this out. Articulation: I hop up and down kerbs, over speed bumps and had no rubbing yet BTW, wolf rims fit on the standard studs, just make sure you torque them up right or they'll over take your 90. So don't be conned in to buying longer studss, since they are the same length! Also since wolfs are OEM, they won't (or shouldn't) bump up your insurance.
  14. Well its alive again 4 bent push rods and a knackered valve. The very top bit snapped off. But all is a-ok now ... touch wood!
  15. Well mine went bang at 130k miles, rebored to 20thou, and has just gone bang today 5k miles later. So if anyone has a 200tdi or a v8 they want to give a poor student
  16. I like my TD. Doesn't have the torque of the Tdi, but why follow the masses. If you don't thrape it to within an inch of its life it might last. Lifespan of 80'000 miles. £2.5k ? that'd buy you 2 or 3 decent 200tdi lumps that would.
  17. Its been done before and they are widely available for £150-350. Is called a Sankey trailer.
  18. Not sure, but on the boat trailer winch a small cut in the side of webbing causes it to completely fail. Is this true with plasma or would it allow you to deload safely?
  19. I'm nearly 6ft you ******.... How family friendly is this forum? Afterall we all swear when we graze our knuckles as that spanner slips.
  20. Don't look at the post I've just put up on orrp then
