  1. Got my sumo bars from QT services. However, the bearmach ones are available from, er, bearmach....
  2. Thys, that was the conclusion I came to as well, but before I went down the engineering works on the head. Have you tried Turners for the Head, or are you sourcing it locally? I put the new head on, and all my problems went away after that. Sorry to hear you have had to go down the more expensive route before coming to that conclusion Cheers Mark
  3. where did you find a supplier? last I heard they were no longer avialble as new units... price dosn't really surprise me though
  4. Cool, I hadn't really twigged that there was an idler and a tensioner... whilst the afore mentioned bearing seems to be readily available on eBlag (albeit without the '' on the end of the code) I shall be dropping into my favorite bearing supplier on Monday lunch time and pick up 2 3 new ones Cheers Mark
  5. That looks very tidy. It is really noticeable how much lower the engine sits in a series chassis... Cheers Mark
  6. My 300 tdi squeeks like a very squeeky thing thats competeing in a squeekyness contest... therefore I think I probably need to replace the bearings in the fan bleft tensiotner and the aircon belt tensioner - sparying them with wd40 dosn't reduce the squeeking at all Have seent eh kits on eBlag for the bearings alone, rather than the complete tensioner unit, so they must be a reasonable readily available bearing size - does anyone know the size and/or the referene number these bearings? I want to make sure I get a decent bearing rather than a chocolate one is all Cheers Mark
  7. Thats a very comprehensive answer from David, the only thing i can add is that I personally find the exploded parts diagrams from the parts catalogue invaluable - often more so that the workshop manual, so I tend to have the haynes manual for the vehicle, as it's readlily available and dosn't merely go down the route of 'take special tool 28 and hit it with special tool number 1' , and the parts catalogue from land. I have quite a collection these days on paper, but very little electronically.
  8. He usually hangs out round the toilets... or is that just at sodbury will pm him, and get him to give you some kind of idea of location... Cheers Mark
  9. thought it sounded familiar...
  10. Jase that sounds eminently reasonable, will talk to Orange and get him to arrange a good pickup place/time... sizewise... from the machinemart website, so I would have thought that a LWB transit should jsut be able to squeeze it in.... Cheers Mark
  11. It's true - we have replaced bits of a 1992 car with good bits from an 83... I think the quality of material really went downhill. I would also be inclined to get an aluminium floored one, but you are talking pre-89 (I think) for that... What are you planning to do with it steve?
  12. Steve, if you have found my posts on rusty disco's and rangies, then you should know most of where to look Disco's and rangies are pretty much interchangeable when it comes to rust seemingly... Essentially, Inner wings and headlight area, sills, boot floor, base of the c-pillar/top of the wheelarch, rear seatbelt mounting points, rear body cross member, A-posts, tailgate (upper and lower) and footwells pretty much covers it. some places more than others are a pain to deal with, and once you start you end up finding more to do Mechanically I wouldn't have thought you would have much of an issue - ABS systems are a pain to deal with, so I guess you need to make sure the light goes out above 5mph when you first start it - and that it comes on in the first place, so it hasn't been fiddled with, or 'Orange'd' Air suspension can be problematic, but I have never played with it so wouldn't know...
  13. Where's the pictures then Mo?? To be fair mine is as finished as it is going to get for a while... Until I get into prepping the Disco for traveling, and get the load rail in, and some idea of what sort of organization I need it's going to stay as you see it in the last post of my thread. It's already gained ropes, shackles and tool boxes in one side. The other side is empty for the moment... The next evolution will be when it gains runners for the fridge to sit on, but that requires me actually buying the fridge Martin, pictures are always good - especially work in progress stuff. A new thread, or added into mine would make it a good archive of different ways to skin the same cat - if you search t'internet there's not a huge amount out there on building your own, so the more we have on here the better! I am liking the brownchruch awning, but I am starting tho think along the lines of something to cover the back of the disco rather than the side, and have a couple of cantilevered designs that may or may not be suitable... either way if it takes the same amount of time to come to fruition as my drawers did (about 2 years from initial ideas, collecting bits up, and then finally construction them) this thread may be active a while! Cheers Mark
  14. Mr Ciderman, and Mr Orange, if you could arrange something between you that would be uber-grand! Seems a bit pointless me getting involved in arranging for you to meet up, but if Jase, you are willing to pick up from Les, and drop with Adrian (Orange) I would be exceedingly grateful. Cheers Mark
  15. Is it just me that has the 'kickstart' theme tune going round in their head now??? well done Mark
  16. Having availed myself of one of Oilit's parts washers, I need to get it from him, in swindown, to me in Horsham. During the day I am mostly in Weybridge, and am also in Guildford pretty often too, so if anyone was passing that way, and fancied picking it up, that would be really helpful... Cheers Mark
  17. saw this one some time ago and dragged it back out of my memory: Disco Awning I think the guy that did it posts on here as Darren I am thinking of doing something very similar on both the side and the rear of my disco... so watching with interest. [Edited, cos I still had a link to a set of tyres I was looking at in my clipboard.. ]
  18. I suspect with slightly better positioning of the mounting plate, you could get the flywheel out, but that is the only thing you can't get to with it mounted like this... Admittedly I had to remove the clutch release plate, and the friction plate before I could mount it too...
  19. As it happens, I have a 200 on a stand outside, so I nipped out and took some pictures... sorry, it's a bit huge, and you will have to ignore the general mess... The stand is bolted onto the bellhousing mounts using M10 bolts - I had to remove studs to get them into sensible positions. Also be careful, as the holes are blind, and you don't want to bottom out. With this particular stand, 75mm bolts would have been perfect, but I used 80mm ones and a spacer... hth Mark
  20. Love the pics, only slightly green eyed... Good to see DII's being used properly too
  21. John, I can knock up something like what steve has drawn with an M4 stud if you like? Superpants' power studs are probably a bit on the large side for what you are after.
