  1. Oh, I meant to say that I am going to stick with the Disco Steels, so I am looking for tyre packages only (unless you have something to offer?) Cheers Mark
  2. Hello all, Does anyone know of any decent deals of a set of BFG MTs at the moment? I am probably looking at 235/85-16's for the disco (yeah I know, it will need some arch mods) and I could do with them before the wales trip... I currently have 255/70-16 BFG ATs on it. In the medium term I am probably going to go down the fedima exterme route, but for normal driving and laning the MTs will be the way to go I think. Opinions and pointers to cheap tyres greatfully recieved! Thanks MArk
  3. Can anyone recomend which Maps would be useful for this trip? I am planning to have some kind of GPS mapping rigged up by then, but a paper backup is always best! Cheers Mark
  4. Doh! I was hoping to come this year, but 29th is my birthday, and the 30th is our wedding anniversary. I was in trouble last year for doing Pauls Slindon winch challenge on the 30th, so I definatly won't get a pass out this year. </grumble> Mark
  5. I attached the cable to the centre hole just to keep the cable-pull as straight as possible. it seemed to help to get it to line up with the small gap between the heatshield and the floor. I can't see why the disc would rust any more than the wheel brakes. In practice it dosn't seem to matter. Both Paul Wightman and Simon Rafferty (simonr/Big Si) have run similarly based disc brakes for several years without problems with the disc rusting. Cheers Mark
  6. Is it time you invested in a bumper dumper then nick???? Mark
  7. Paul, can you add my little brother to the list (he posts as orange). I am sure he will be along to confirm, but he was very interested when I mentioned it this evening. Cheers Mark
  8. Can I indicate my interest Paul? I don't know what vehicle I will be using, but I am interested nonetheless! Cheers Mark
  9. Well, apart from a nice few days canal boating over christmas, I got a new angle grinder, a rattle gun and some vouchers to buy spanners in halfrauds! Got a couple of VW things too! all in all, not bad! B) Cheers Mark
  10. Hello All, Just thought I would share some info on fitting a Disc Handbrake to a 200 TDI 3 Door Disco... Firsly, I got the kit form Simon and X-Eng (simonr) who warned me that this version had yet to be fitted to a disco and that I was the guinea pig for it! So, to make it easy for my self I chose to do it in the dark sometime around tea time! The old handbrake was completely non-functional. I don't know why precisesly, but I have had the drum handbrake apart on on various other vehicle enough time to know that I didn't want the hassle any more, hence the disc kit for my new motor. The old stuff came off fairly easily. I completely reomved the bracketry from the old actuating lever from the side of the box too. There were a couple of modifications I made to the caliper before I fitted it, since I was basically fitting this 90 degrees round from the normal mounting point. Si says he will carry out these modifications for anyone ordering a kit specifically for their disco. The new X-brake design has a backplate that can be fitted in several positions, once I found the one that cleared the floor, and the holes, lined up we were away. The rest of the fitting was pretty straight forward up to the point where I had to fit the cable retention bracket. The new bracket has been designed to be fitted in several orientations, but Simon had already said that this may need some modification, as there is not an awful lot of space under there. I also modified the heat shield for the exhaust a little. The pictures below give a couple of views of how it ended up: Overall, I am really happy with the kit. The vehicle now holds on my ramps and I am confident to leave it there now. I havn't tried it on the road yet, as I still have a few more holes in sills to patch up before I can get an MoT... Thought it might interest one or two people on here. Cheers Mark
  11. Meant to add that they are best used with a bridle... at least I prefer to. B) Would be nice to see some Range Rover and Disco setups too.... Cheers Mark
  12. jules, afiak these are lifting eyes: ie meant for tying down or unslinging vehicles for air transportation. These are called D-Rings and are meant for recovery. Mine came from the hallowed Mr Bowyer himself: I'm no expert, but that is what I have been lead to believe from covering this topic a number of times on both this and the old forum... Happy to be corrected though. Cheers Mark
  13. Another quick thing that proabably needs mentioning is around fixings. If the bolt isn't stamped then don't use it - go and get some that are (8.8 or equivalent or above). I am lead to believe that normal studding comes somewhere equivalent to 1.something! High tensile studding is available, but isn't stamped. Essentially, Bolts are better.... Mark
  14. I have these on the IIa: The lightweight came fitted with this on the back: And I added this to the front: Note: Lightweights have a strengthening bar between the dumb-irons which is drilled to take the hitch, and I have also added a 6mm spreader plate on the front and a similar 8mm spreader on the rear. For future reference these are NOT recovery points: Just need some decent suggestions for the Disco now.... Cheers Mark
  15. Cheers Ralph, PM sent! Mark
  16. Hello all, I am trying to work out what parts are required to add some extra switches into the dash on my 1991 Disco. I have some part numbers but would really appreciate a look at the exploded diagram that should be in the parts catalogue. The spaces I want to use are those either side of the steering wheel, where the radio controls would be if I had them. I am guessing I need some combination of switch and bulb holder/s for them to illuminate with the side lights and when on etc. Anyone got the appropriate page to hand? Help greatly appreciated, Cheers Mark
  17. I would be interested in some too, if anyone fancies organising a group buy (even if it just to save on shipping...) Cheers Mark
  18. incidentally, craddocks was an allmakes one. Since paddocks cocked up my last order I thoguht I would give craddocks a go this time... crapaddocks indeed... Mark
  19. Just phoned Land Rover dealer for price on a genuine water pump £115 +VAT +£40 surcharge untill you return the old one!!! Guess it will be a pattern one after all - I guess should aviod bearmach ones then... Anyone know whose pump (cr/p)addocks supply? ta Mark
  20. Nige, pm recieved and replied to... Cheers Mark
  21. Trev, Yeah, it's the inverted 'U' bit on the axle case thats the problem.... Welding new 'U' pices on souldn't be a problem (they have a tame welder) but it's a question of where to get the new pieces from without having to get somehting fabricated up. They don't have much in the way of fabrication kit where they are, and bending a peice of 6mm? isn't exactly childs play... Cheers Mark [brother of Orange...]
  22. Bloody hell, I nearly fell off me chair!!! Ralph wrong on a part number - couldn't happen?!?!? Cheers for the advice chaps. I will order some wading plugs, and a new water pump. I guess it's the usual suspects for parts, but is there an option of genuin or pattern? Is there any difference if there is for this sort of thing? Cheers Mark
  23. OK, so I have been and had a good look, and I think I have come to a conclusion (and a question...): [incidentally, this was taken looking up, from underneath] This seems to indcate that there is water coming from the bottom of the waterpump housing, through the hole which I have arrowed. Therefore, new waterpump required methinks. The other thing I noticed was that there is a hole in the bottom of the timing case - should this have a plug in of some description, for wading and the like? Thanks Mark
  24. Cheers Les, How would I know if it was the core plug? Would it be a case of taking the timing cover off the front of the engine? Mark
