  1. Finally got round to posting this, but thought it would be worth adding: Almost looks intentional.... Not had any of the sort of success some people are reporting though.... Mark
  2. I like that, and I would probably buy it if I saw it on a shelf! cool B) Mark
  3. hello kirsty22 congratulations on being member number 1000.... In answer to your question, lots will, and some won't - most can be made to though. It also depends on what you are trying to achieve. Almost all the the bits will - for example a SIII bulkhead will fit a sII chassis, but it's not the right bit! What sort of things are you looking at doing? Cheers Mark
  4. shouldn't make a difference, since it is just using the link down to the bellcrank. Cheers Mark
  5. The caliper is operated directly from the std Series Hand Brake lever. Instead of the linkage coming down to the bellcrank on the chassis, it is connected directly to the calliper. Mark
  6. si, the the glow plugs are on the ignition switch. it is the position just before the starter engages. i will come over and get it moved into the warm for you if you like. cheers mark
  7. <sheepish> Ummm, yeah, they are the ones! good job I had my eyes tested this morning isn't it... </sheepish> ta Mark
  8. Cool, Looks to be coming along well! Glad I could be of assistance with the lend of the vehicle. Cheers Mark
  9. I have seen several good write ups of people's on board air systems but I can't seem to find any of them at the moment - I looked in the Tech archive, but couldn't see anything there. I have aquired a Rover 45 Air con compressor and am slowly formulating a plan to install it on the disco to give me ready air for various reasons. If anyone has the links to the write ups for the OBA installs that would be cool. It also might be worth starting a thread in the Tech Archive for this topic? Ta Mark
  10. I have a 200TDI and i just fitted 255/70-16 BFG MTs. IMHO the transferbox struggles with this size tyres (so I'm glad I didn't go for the 85 profile tyres!) I also have RR HD springs all round, but the i don't think this generates any real lift - especially not at the back! Anyway, They do catch on the bodywork at the extremes of articulation, but for day today stuff and the odd muddy field I don't think you will need the lift. Cheers Mark
  11. Yeah, I don't know what was wrong with me the other night . Just being lazy and distracted I guess. Usually I have a full face shield as well as safety glasses and gloves. I have had enough incidents with grinders to know better. Mark
  12. Since we are on the subject of simple but effective tools, here is my diff pinion locking tool: it is made from a piece of 30x8mm Mild Steel about 500mm long. The holes are 10mm diameter and 50mm between centres. The important bit is to grind out one side to allow acces to the diff pinion nut. In use you need to undo the propshaft from the diff nose, and bolt this on accross two of the holes. The ground out piece means you should still be able to get a socket onto the pinion nut, and the other end of the tool will brace against the chassis rail. It may seem obvious, but it makes doing the pinion oil seal a lot easier! Enjoy Mark
  13. I use this on the lightweight: Security battery isolator switch. Removable key in the 'on; and 'off' positions. Includes 2 keys. 100Amps @ 24v, 500A for 5 secs. Very neat when installed and a little bit of security. Probably won't hande winching currents for long though. What do you want to use the switch for? Vehicle battery or winch battery? Mark
  14. I don't have any pitcures of the last time it came home on the back of a truck, but here is one from the day we pulled the IIA out of the shed it had languished in for the previous 15 years. more orange than yellow.... Mark
  15. Bad Luck Chris Bloody lucky it didn't go a few days beforehand though! I'm not sure I would fancy towing you round some of the lanes we did over the weekend! Mark
  16. Mandy, Have you looked on the companies house website? It has a searchable database, so you can see if your ideas have already been used by someone else... Mark
  17. Well, apart from the sense of humour failure I suffered when Mike slipped sideways into that disco swallowing hole, I had an excellent weekend! My favorite picture of the weekend also involves the ford... .. I really should get a snorkel before trying that again... Cheers to everyone for a really good weekend! Mark
  18. Quite possibly Nige, but are they for the front or the rear? I think I need to bring the Front down a bit and the rear up too.... Mark
  19. Si, I will Park the IIa in your garden tonight or tomorrow night if that helps... Mark
  20. I am currently running Police Spec Rangie Rear Springs all round on my Disco which seems to give a slightly uneven setup: As you can see it is very high at the front, and quite low at the back. I would like it to be much more even, so I need to do something about it! Bearing in mind that I want to add the weight of a winch to the front end which should bring it down a bit, I am thinking of just adding some 1.5 " spacers to the rears to bring the back up a bit. The other option is to change the springs again, question is what ones are good? I want some lift - 1"-2" but don't want to have to get into castor corrected radius arms and the like. Suggestions as to a good way forward and for decent spring combinations gratefully recieved. ta Mark
  21. Jim, I'm having great difficulty getting them to work too Also are the Parts catalogues there? Thanks for the effort, it would be a really good resource if it could be got to work reliably. Cheers Mark

    Portal Axles

What a waste of time and effort! Portals give you a far better ground clearence without the need for 15 miles of scaffold tube to hold the body away from the chassis! I bet the articulation on that thing is as awful as it was when they started! There was a good article on a lightweight running portals in TOR a while back, I will dig it out if you like. Cheers Mark
