  1. So what if no current production vehicle has them in the top hose ? It's a nice simple way of doing it. If you're not happy with the temperature switch, just choose another one that switches higher. For what it's worth your temperature gauge reads from pretty much the same place. I know mine works perfectly for my application. G
  2. I can find them to swage on, but was just after a little fitting that i could store in the tool box. Rather than a hose hanging off the end.
  3. Morning, I am looking for an M16 banjo that has a male thread on it, either in -6jic or 3/8 bsp. It is to make up a little test gauge for power steering pumps etc. However, i refuse to pay £21.96 for one !!!! http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p2228/M16-BANJO-X-6JIC/product_info.html Any other possible sources ? Or am i going to have a go on the lathe ? Gordon
  4. i run the same temp as what x eng use, but i go with the theory of better safe than sorry. Coupled with the fact that my rad is in the rear and i work the engine hard at low speeds
  5. As much as i hate to take business away from simon (x-eng), if you get a thermostat housing from a v8 that had aircon, you can screw that radiator fan switch into it. G
  6. On a slightly different topic, if you haven't bought your QT seats already - tomcat404 on here has a set for sale
  7. I was using etch primer this morning, as said above it is very watery but we just brushed it on. Left it half a day then put a zinc primer on it. If i were to finish the job properly tomorrow i'd be putting on a high build, the same the next day and then 2 finish coats. However we've run out of high build hardener and that's going to be a minimum of a week till delivery, so we're gonna skip straight to finish to get the job done ! LOL.
  8. I like my Kam ones (they're actually from Steve when he was there ) G
  9. Looking good chris Try not to break anything - your mobile stores dept won't be there If i use a caphead somewhere that is going to get full of mud, i fill the end with silicone - so that when it comes to having to put an allen key in it you just pop out the silicone and everything is nice n clean G
  10. Chris, Just be careful that you haven't bent or broken the flange on your ARB. I bent mine and i remember gunnit saying that he broke his when stripping r+p's. I went pegged after this G
  11. Nige - you know me too well ! Hell, i'm a roughneck at heart - it's how we operate !
  12. Recently when i've been draining my diff's it's usually to take out metal chunks which are too big to fit through the drain hole
  13. Again, i totally agree. But when we stop to refuel there is sometimes a pressure build up. And yes, the valve is for when i roll. My tank is not a normal LR tank, merely an ally tank with a couple ports.
  14. Les - i agree with you 101% but in my petrol i sometimes get a pressurised tank after it's been used. I've got a one way valve to allow air in but not out. God knows why ! ? But after an event, i leave the lid loose to allow air in / out.
  15. all the rover v8's are pretty much physically the same on the outside, so yes. btw - the 4.2 was an range rover classic LSE. G
  16. no...it was you trying to take a shortcut and breaking something in the process :hysterical:
  17. Morning, Well the 24 motor housing magnets are "shorter" than the 12v version, so i didn't try swapping them over. Trying to work out which motor will be best for my application - This is the centre winch, which we actually use quite a lot. I want fast spool in / out speed with no load. Yes i know about freespool, but to be honest being used on the centre it's difficult to get them free enough - hence the spool out. I am 12v and have no intention of fitting a second battery or turbo pack as my main winches are hydraulic. Bow 1, Bow 2 or XP ? We did fit a 5.6hp motor to a little t-max yesterday and that is now pretty quick ! G
  18. Afternoon, I'm curious.... I have 2 winch motors - one is 12v the other is 24. Both from tds' and both physically look the same on the outside. The brushes look the same. But what makes the one 12v and the other 24v ? Are the armatures different ? Are the magnets the same ? You know what i'm going to ask next..... Can i put the 12v armature into the 24v housing ? I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem on the 12v motor. Basically it spins in one direction at a normal speed, but if you go the other way it starts off a bit sluggish and then slows down. It's not the solenoids. It's not brushes. Cheers Gordon

    Auto rad

In my challenge truck i run a p38's cooler on my auto, above the height of the rear tray. No problems. To the original post - if your cooler is getting that muddy that it doesn't work, what about your main radiator - surely that should be more of a concern ??? G
  20. I'm with the other comments above leave the bloke alone, his choice. If you wish to "play that game", you may as well point your finger at any truck that has had it's chassis modified in any shape or form and now requires an iva, sva, abc etc - that'd be half this forum G
  21. Afternoon, I'm just wondering what is the fastest way to pay for a vehicle from a private seller. A trader can normally just put a debit card through his machine and take the money. Say for example you wanted to buy an £8,000 car. How would you pay for it ? I wish to view and pay at the same time, with no return trips etc. Personally i don't mind taking that sort of money in cash, but how many people would like to recieve it that way ? Cheers Gordon
  22. landranger services, might be a bit far but they have a couple locations
  23. Well done..... we finished 4th, but less than one punch's score behind you guys ! Guess we need to stop breaking shafts and spending the day in 3wd G
  24. Steve, have you found a head yet. There is a breaker up here who does alot of new(ish) defenders.... I can check if he's got any ? G
