Hampshire 200Tdi head refurb recommendation

Any recommendations for a company to carry out a top end overhaul on my 200Tdi?

Looking for a reputable and experienced place to remove head, check, overhaul and replace. Proactive maintenance as coming up to 140K miles.

I believe Elring composite head gasket is the way forwards.

Any experience of just buying a recon head from Turners as a short cut?

Thanks in advance for any pointers

Rob

Keith Gott in Lasham just outside Alton are a reputable Land Rover specialists for old and new , decent fellas to boot & I know you asked for a company to remove your head etc but if you take it off yourself then Roe engineering in Fleet has a good reputation , a bit of a drive from Petersfield though. Hope this is of some help.

Gotts are OK (I get on well with their parts guys) but hella expensive labour-wise.

Banda engineering at Portsmouth are stunning value for all big oily lumps, although you don't exactly get a leather sofa & skinny latte while you wait!

Proper old school engineering firm. The guy is self employed and has done several small machining (non landy) jobs for me. Landy related stuff he's done for me included a flywheel skim/reface and removing a snapped caliper bolt from a hub. He is not a LR specialist but I've seen him with vintage engines in for rebuild, so a 200Tdi would be no problem for him. Prices very reasonable and he know's his stuff, not the quickest as he's usually got plenty of work on - a recommendation in itself.

You would need to take the head to him. Tdis do crack between their valve seats, so Turner's and going recon would be another route. Yet to hear anything but praise for Turner's.
