Stellaghost
Check your thermostat is not sticking this preventing flow to the radiator, if your losing water and it's not obvious you may need to check head gasket regards Stephen
Snagger
Does it make any difference when you switch the lights or heater fan on? If so, it could be a false over reading caused by a bad earth for the gauges, lighting or fan switch in the dash.
western
What state are the radiator fins in, if most have disintegrated then that will give higher temps as the rad cannot disperse the excess heat.

Eightpot
Is the car a 200tdi from the factory, or is it an engine conversion?
gruntus
Faulty temp sensor? Just a thought. G
Roverdrive
When checking the radiator fins look on the back side nearest the fan as that is where they tend to rot. The front can look perfect.
