Jim Mason
Just stripped my old engine for all useable parts and to see what actually went so horribly wrong.

Jim Mason
Yep, but what caused it that is the question...
Snagger
Could you have got water into that bore while running? Seems unusual to hydraulic just one cylinder, but it’s not impossible.
Jim Mason
It had been playing up for some time, initially it was a suspect starter motor as engine ran fine but once running unless engine cooled you were unable to re-start the enine. Some water was present in the oil after it all went bang. Also it has took out the turbo, turbo bearings are shot, lot of play front to back, up & down. Going to check oil pump, to see if that gives me any further clues.
Jim Mason
Original oil pump appears to be ok, nothing too obvious inside no broken teeth feels smooth running
Bowie69
When it failed, what happened? How was it being driven?
Jim Mason
On motorway driven at 55 mph, loud whining sound, pulled over onto hard shoulder loud bang. Lost all power, popped engine greated with flames. Prior to that was lacking the usual umph, hence reason was limping her home at 55 mph.
