I'm fairly certain you'd now get away with child smuggling quite easily.

I swear that's my son and not evidence of a crime .

Been thinking about a headliner from the beginning of the project but going to have to make a decision now.

A couple of honest individuals do occasionally sell their old tatty headliners for £50ish but they're always too far South for me and it doesn't make sense after courier costs. £250+ for a drooping headliner is just mental in my book.

After striking out on ebay and FB marketplace looking for original headliners, I'm going to just go with 5mm flexible ply. It will work fine for the curves  and is just as easy to cover. Might even just Danish oil it and call it a day. Would do a much better job standing up to dings and scrapes. Can always decide once it's test fitted.

Evri / heremes have been holding on to my 20mm insulation since the start of the week so had to busy myself with other jobs. So swapped the headlights from the 90 while it's off the road. Discovered the previous owner of the 130 had twisted the wires for the DRLs in the old headlamps together and wrapped the joins with leccy tape.

Also discovered a permanent live behind the drivers side headlamp that came off a random relay in the engine bay . Not sure what it's for but the relay can't be doing anything if it's permanently live?

IIRC these cost £150 new for the pair. Cheap and cheerful for halo headlights.

They're not bad at all for the price and the ring flashes orange with the indicator. Really easy to install too.

Insulation arrived late on Saturday. Took me 5hrs to do the front and 2nd row roof today.

They were out of the standard 20mm insualtion so had to get foil backed. Still need to cover the reinforcement ribs with 10mm insulation.

It feels like I'm going 100mph when I'm out there but never seem to have much to show for it.

It was cold out and the condensation immediately started forming on the ribs that only had aluminium tape over it.

IMG_20220403_164531.thumb.jpg.97a3471879abd361f7884348bcdbdee4.jpg

You can see my little X marked in the condensation.

I remember my father in law used to think his sunroof was leaking on his 90 but I found that it was purely down to condensation.

The insulated areas are amazing. I ran the heat gun to dry out the roof to let the insualtion stick better and was sweltering in minutes. 🥵

Pause on headliner work. Poked the bulkhead while investigating water in the footwell and found the usual.

Don't want to make access to bolts harder than I already have 🥲

Last trip highlighted the biggest glaring flaw with the center console. It has cup holders but they're shallow are in the lid of the cubby.

Its also massive on the inside and almost all that space is generally inaccessible.

Soooooo....

IMG_20220405_214817.thumb.jpg.82c586073e780f55641fe0f4525c0df1.jpg

The further back it is the more you can manspread 😁

IMG_20220419_095543.thumb.jpg.06eaded826f3f099b66bf6049174450b.jpg

Wanted it to have a slot for thermos mugs with handles and provide access to smaller cans. Narrow section in bottom so red bull cans don't rattle around too much.

IMG_20220420_113157.thumb.jpg.3266d67999d84faee66ea22e262eff84.jpg

Still has space for a 1L nalgene bottle and large coffee thermos mugs.

IMG_20220424_140120.thumb.jpg.61f463b69fb5eea415e02123e3ddf7ee.jpg

Quick test fit.

IMG_20220424_144942.thumb.jpg.4913f10859c11e20fee4e82316a976f5.jpg

Holes drilled so the epoxy can grab the lip more easily.

IMG_20220424_140240.thumb.jpg.1d2f2105e83bf08a82f9c87d2e17024c.jpg

Overhang hides the all the crimes.

I cut a lot of strength out, so the cup holders have 3 walls, high percentage infill and the lower portion has 10mm thick sides.

Glad I didn't screw this up - shifter cover still fits in between.

A little rough on the inside but should smooth with use. You can see the narrowed bottom section.

IMG_20220424_163731.thumb.jpg.eb8d67573a79414e084754f53c598bac.jpg

Easily accommodates the nalgene bottle and thermos.

Could probably have moved the cup holders further forwards but leaves plenty of space to the front for more recessed storage.

Tray is printed - just needs some glue. Temps were too low and the base delaminated when taking it off the build plate. Epoxy gun to the rescue!

IMG_20220427_110636.thumb.jpg.155c6a90bb4ba24c06fc29a3052b6556.jpg

Also used up a bunch of scraps from old reels so a lot of stop starting. Turned out ok.

Turned my attention to my break glass hammer that's just been rattling around my dash. Chances of that staying put if I end up in a situation where I need it are pretty low.

IMG_20220427_110625.thumb.jpg.c0d7e615c6fd9ccbe20f09351962a405.jpg

Think the holder is still in my old Vectra at the scrappies. I could just buy a new one but why not make a holder and recess it too? First attempt - tightened it up a lot already so it would go neatly on the side of the centre console within easy reach.

IMG_20220427_111100.thumb.jpg.ef2a7c5121fd53e1892a026fb5aef23d.jpg

Too far forward - making it narrower let's it sit just Infront of the new cup holder.

IMG_20220427_211127.thumb.jpg.76cf3333c24446b02009d69ba010417c.jpg

There's a little shallow tray next to the transfer case shifter so I can only recess the holder in by 10mm. Including the rounded flange brings that up to 15mm so the pointy bits are covered. Retention clips are a separate bit so I can tweak the design without having to remake the whole thing.

Tray inserts are in, but the smaller one needs to be re-printed. Easy enough as both the large and small tray inserts just slot into place. Break glass hammer is in although I made a complete mess of the epoxy.

Might take the opportunity to jazz up the design with some coin holder slots for parking.

IMG_20221210_163348.thumb.jpg.c3808ca63f7c3ddf39ea71cd04131167.jpg

Now I'm just looking at all that unused space infront of the cup holders.

Reprinted the small tray insert and pretty happy with my new coin holder 😁

Printed in ASA so should be plenty robust.

Had an idea for the space infront of the shifter too. Not really enough space for switches but last time I was out with my mate doing a deer count we were constantly losing our pens. Seems like the perfect spot!

This is genuinely fantastic, and one of the most real-world useful applications of 3D printing I've seen so far.

But it kinda reminds me of this:

Which is good, I think.

Just waiting for you to 3D print a new bulkhead. In fact...

Any comparison to that madman I'll take as a compliment!

I am kind of thinking about a roof console....

I have an idea on the back burner for combining a roof console with a low profile AC unit under the second row seats, with air ducts printed into the side trim and joining up with the roof console to give me air vents at head height for the front and second row.

Plus all the usual roof console stuff - space for radio, extra switches, second row interior light storage etc.

Centre console is back in the truck just in time to get the bins to the top of the road. We've got a fair bit of snow here now so pulling them up there by hand isn't an option!

Snow and ice packed into the air vent didn't do much for warming up the inside mind you 🥶 Then I remembered I had a cowl installed on the 90 and 5mins later I'm good to go 😁

They are useful additions- they don’t just keep snow out, but rain water, sand, leaf litter and anything else.  The intake location was pretty daft!

I've seen the full snorkel versions too but a bit too adventurous for me I think!

That bin behind the shifter is good use of space. I believe that space was an optional location for the radio in the US models this console is based on. Oh and the cup holders look great, they really fit well.

That makes a fair bit more sense now. I wonder what the shallow one near the handbrake was for then 🤔 definitely doesn't fit my mobile but then it's a bit of a phablet.

So my aftermarket Toad alarm decided to lock the doors as soon as I closed them - with the engine still running 🥲

Usually waits to do that until the car is moving.

IMG_20221215_092120.thumb.jpg.aee409b2c0e0ecb90a8d2a3b47da2c2b.jpg

Thankfully I've seen how they do it in movies.

Shockingly easy to pull up on the tab and get back in. I have a Clifford 650 mk3 ready to be installed later this month with remote start function so this shouldn't happen again. Will also be nice to have two fobs for added peace of mind.

So tomorrows job will be getting the new latch installed.

So turns out I don't have this rib in my door. Lucky me.

Screenshot_20221217_154625_com_ebay.mobile_edit_463046669720.jpg.19dc2bafc2d0b771ba8d6dc2adfa3170.jpg

Thankfully I don't throw anything out including old scabby radiator brackets. The angle was only the perfect size! Rests on top of the spare wheel mount plate which made it easy to install.

IMG_20221217_145041.thumb.jpg.6aa1be50f0cb0c6279971a3aa9a66fba.jpg

New latch didn't come with a barrel and my old one didn't fit. If anyone needs one of the older style latches including stubby barrel and the small key, it's yours for postage.

IMG_20221217_145044.thumb.jpg.e48e993e3de175a76254a7eff80788bf.jpg

Had to rivnut the mounting points for my rain shedder as the nuts protruded and prevented the RDX bracket fitting.

IMG_20221217_150535.thumb.jpg.ad1ad3d36e8289922bbf43e32e3d5872.jpg

You get one screw in the kit for the small hole in the actuator bracket but a rivnut makes mounting it much easier. I think the larger hole may be for an existing bolt hole if you have the rib in your door which I don't.

IMG_20221217_152302.thumb.jpg.e5841188fa4e4607bbad9e82d01fc9a3.jpg

I put a rivnut in my old radiator bracket too so no fiddling trying to hold a nut in place behind the actuator bracket.

IMG_20221217_152317.thumb.jpg.ebfe76b0d572666e0832d0921ca51858.jpg

All set up now for the alarm guys to do their thing. Did my best to position the actuator in the middle of the movement range so it neither has to be fully retracted or extended to flip the snib.
