Anderzander
My Winch Solenoid (Albright type) has developed a fault switching power out - 12v is reaching both sides of the switching circuits, but only one side is outputting 12v to the motor. Ebay seems awash with them, nearly all coming from China - is anyone able to point me at one that is affordable and known to be decent quality please? miketomcat
These seam to be the cheapest genuine Albright. https://www.red-winches.com/product/albright-competition-motor-control-solenoid-dc88p/ Mike
TSD
Not sure what's up with your solenoid, but guessing you've welded a contact internally. It is possible to source spares for Albright solenoids. e.g. https://www.arc-components.com/albright-dc88-replacement-components.html
Nonimouse
EV Thompson do a 500amp unit, that is exceptional. None of the condensation issues you get with Albright (and albright copies) or can solenoids, as well as more than enough capacity to take current draw loads. Fourby sell them, but don't let that put you off, as they can (obviously) be bought much cheaper on Ebay https://fourby.co.uk/500A-Winch-Solenio (ignore the typos)
western
I use a Thompson as noted by Nonimouse, it works fine with my Husky for rally recovery work. 1
Nonimouse
I don't use anything else now, when fitting winches for my 'customers'. Althoughon my vehicle I have a cheap Albright copy, that I spent 10 mins rebuilding and drilled holes in the casing to vent condensation. I have a spare Thompson unit, but like the 1000amp marine kill switch, brand new cables and new remotes, they are all in a box, waiting for time and need. If it works, use the time to fix someone elses carp!
Anderzander
That’s a hell of a recommendation. thank you. Fourby is the only place I can find that have them in 12v - I can find a 24v one on eBay. Am I just missing it?
Anderzander
Actually the 24v one on eBay makes reference to 12v everywhere except the title. I’ll message them.
Nonimouse
Deliberate mistake its TG not EV Looking on line, Neil at Fourby is selling them at a good price. He generally buys in cheaply form China and markets at a high mark up, but none of the usual ebayers seem to have any in stock. Shame
Anderzander
This is the one that says 24v in the title - but 12v everywhere else … https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255844521459? Ive messaged to be sure before I order.
Anderzander
They’ve come back to me - that is 24v - no 12’s in stock. So I’ve ordered one from Fourby - theirs is plus VAT, so more then it seems.
Anderzander
… and Fourby have refunded my money but not got in touch to say why … and they are still advertising them. Im assuming they don’t have any. Looks like TG Thompson Winch Solenoids are in very short supply !
western
I have found my spare genuine Albright solenoid, it does work, removed from my 110 & replaced with a Thompson unit, I don't need it anymore, so make me a sensible offer via PM if you would like to acquire it.
