Exmoor Beast Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 My front prop has a knackered UJ so rather than just replace it I was thinking about changing the propshaft. Does any old Disco 2 fit a 110? or am I after something specific? Will Quote
PaulMc Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 My front prop has a knackered UJ so rather than just replace it I was thinking about changing the propshaft. Does any old Disco 2 fit a 110? or am I after something specific? Will My mate has just fitted a Discovery II double-cardan front propshaft to his 2" lifted RRC. The double-cardan end (at the transfer 'box) has a bigger diameter flange than the normal LR flange, so he had to fit a new Discovery II front output flange to his transfer 'box, which cost him about £75 from a main dealer. He's got a BW viscous transfer 'box on his RRC and the new flange was a straight swap, it should also be a straight swap on an LT230. To ensure that the sliding joint remained somewhere in the middle of it's travel, he also fitted a Wizardbilt 15mm propshaft spacer at the axle end flange - Paul. Quote
Exmoor Beast Posted October 27, 2007 Author Posted October 27, 2007 Top answer. Go to the head of the class that man Will Quote
miketomcat Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 the flange also fits straight into lt230 front and rear (mines in the rear with a modded drum) mike Quote
BogMonster Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 A 300Tdi one and a Td5 Disco one are the same, we regularly fit 110 ones to the Discoverys when (not if, when) the wizzy bit falls off, because most customers baulk at £450 for a new "proper" propshaft... no sign of vibrations on any I have driven. Exmoor Beast Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Now I am confused again. maybe I should just whip the front prop of a mates TD5 Disco and try it... Will Quote
white90 Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 won't fit without the transfer box flange and the spacer otherwise the slider will be to far extended see tech archive: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=77 Quote
BogMonster Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Yeah sorry, forgot to mention they change the flange as well. Quote
Exmoor Beast Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Nice one Tony, for some reason I hadn't seen the second link when I did a quick search (being lazy I expect). Looks like a minor fiasco involved then. thanks all [big thumbs up] Will Quote
miketomcat Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 for ref the disco 2 front prop is 5mm longer than a 200tdi disco front prop when both are fully closed mike Quote
ajh Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Do the D2 shafts use the same U-joints? Wondering if I can pick one up and rebuild it using the flange from the old 110 front shaft instead of an adapter, just a 40mm lift and an expedition vehicle so not so flexy so not too worried about the spline length. Quote
Aragorn Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 As far as i know 200tdi disco and 300tdi defender front props are the same... I had a 300tdi def prop on my disco v8 without any problems... So if the 200tdi disco and td5 disco props are the same length as miketomcat says, why is a spacer needed? I read a post recently about someone rebuilding the d2 prop, complete with greasable UJ's and a new centre bearing. Was it on here? Quote
bobtail4x4 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 If you are going to use a spacer, and need to swap the flange, why not make an adaptor? sales opportunity for someone?? Quote
miketomcat Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 i don't think you need the spacer unless your running over a two inch lift. yes you can rebuild them with greasable UJ's it's very fiddley though i had to cut the old one out and you can't change the large flange as it all part of the double carden. mike Quote
ajh Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 OK, sounds like a good solution for me then. Thanks. Quote
