Green Bob
After my front halfshaft decided to smash into the oil filter the other day, I decided that the colossal leak would be due to the dinked filter, so I changed it and refilled the oil. Started the engine and the substantial oil leak is still there. My guess is the prop hit something else as well, but without knowing what exactly it looked like before the clunk, I can't tell what, if anything, has changed. This is the area around the filter from below as it is now. The leak is definitely from that area. Engine is a 19J if that makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated. Happyoldgit
How can a halfshaft smash into the filter - do you mean propshaft? Anyway, clean the area with a degreaser and it will be a lot easier to trace where the leak is coming from.
FridgeFreezer
From that picture I can say it's definitely coming from the black bit
western
examine the flange area of the oil cooler hose 'turret' casing, mine cracked off & leaked oil out, or the oil pressure switch maybe damaged & leaking. defo needs a good clean first. FridgeFreezer
The fact the terminal on the oil pressure switch is bent & the wire's not on suggests it's been hit. Cleaning the thing up is the only way to be sure though, could be anything.
santalars
Agree. But how can the halfshaft or the propshaft hit the oil filter???
Green Bob
Cheers. Looks like it's the oil pressure switch that needs replacing. Propshaft flange sheared and sent it into the filter and the sump, got three nice gouges in my sump as well, but no penetration...
