muddychris300tdi
Hi just found this. Is it really worth that much money on a few more bhp? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/300-Tdi-VNT-TURBO-POWER-IMPROVEMENT-KIT-stage2_W0QQitemZ170332647612QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item27a89df0bc
cieranc
That is a lot of money for an extra 21 hp and 65 foot pounds of torque. I'm sure a decent intercooler and pump tweek could get as much as 15 hp for a start.
rusty_wingnut
i've got one, and it goes quite well from a stand still, certainly better than a normal Tdi, whether or not it is worth 2k is another question
jericho
35% increase in max torque at 400 rpm less is a good power upgrade, but Allisport or Allards will do you a variable geometry turbo for less money. Edit to add - the m&d ebay add does include a new/exchange upgraded fuel pump??? and an intercooler.
Maverik
Looks a decent enough kit, but way overpriced.
FridgeFreezer
On no planet is that worth the money, you can buy a 400+bhp V8 brand new on a pallet for that sort of money. In fact I'd draw the line at about £500 for any mod to a TDi as that's the point at which it's a better prospect to move to a different engine - Isuzu 2.8 being the next obvious choice. muddychris300tdi
I'v done a few mods to my 300tdi and it goes well. I'm thinking of changing turbo next but no chance of spending that amount.
cieranc
Edit to add - the m&d ebay add does include a new/exchange upgraded fuel pump??? I'd be very keen to see exactly how the pump is upgraded, weather it is actually upgraded or just tweeked. And moreso, how much power increase you get with this kit and a standard pump, how much of the extra power comes from the pump itself. SteveRK
i'm not sure I would spend any ammount of money on the basis of a 'claimed' increase let alone £2k! thats a big leap of faith!
Daan
Thats a lot of dosh to spend on an engine which will be at least 5 years old by now. If you like more power and want to spend that kind of dosh, I would save up a bit longer and get the TGV. Daan
Turbocharger
Depends what kit it is. I reckon I would have spent £1k on my VGT conversion if I'd paid market rate for the turbo or manifold, so add a margin onto that and supply some ancillary bits and it could represent a sensible price. I'm not saying it's a sensible purchase, it could have cost him that much to put it together. The wonder of eBay is that he only needs to find one person who thinks it's worth the price. If he finds TWO people, happy times!
The Badger
Save up a bit and get a new TGV, it's not that much more.
