BogMonster
Early Td5 headlights onto a 300 are easy (just swap them), late Td5 four-eyed headlights are much harder and anything onto a 200 Disco is likely to be really hard but will need to know exactly what you are putting onto what, to give exact instructions
bobtail4x4
I have a 300 conversion on my 200, not a lot of work, but a good cutting pattern is needed, (I used the panels off a 300) the early disco 2 headlighs are a straight swap for 300 headlights, but the facelift ones need a LOT of cutting, and chopping the wings, I have seen it done, anything is possible on a landrover. disco_al
sooooo, what (if any) benefit does changing to TD5 headlights give?
BogMonster
The early 99-02 headlights are the same fitting as a 300Tdi but have the "slightly smoked around the edges" look so purely cosmetic improvement. Later ones have the four-eyed headlights which means more light but are a PITA to fit and I would guess the wiring needs to be revised as well as you get dip and main on at the same time in those rather than one or the other. DiscoClax
Hi all. I've just had one of my headlights destroyed *grumble* and can get a pair of early D2 (pre facelift) ones for a reasonable price. The LR specialist dismantler reckons they won't fit my D1 update ('94-on), whereas my understand was they would, and that's the general consensus above. Can someone who has actually done this swap confirm it is do-able and whether it's plug&play or there are any tweaks required before I put down my hard-earned? Much appreciated. Cheers. auf_wiedersehen_pet
He's talking rubbish! Lift the bonnet and push the headlight forward until the "poppers" give. Disconnect the bulb holders. New headlight fitting is the reverse. On a good day it should take 60 seconds!
DiscoClax
Cheers Rob. That is much appreciated. It certainly won't take much for the poppers to give... They've been broken for years. Cable ties are a wonderful thing...

Cheers. switching to the 99-02 disco 2 lights on a series 1 disco is a straight swap, unclip the 3 adjusters from the front panel (pull the pin and twist 1/3rd of a turn, unplug the wiring, swap the new lamp over (you may have to swap the adjusters if they are new lights) clip in job done - simples. DiscoClax
Good suggestion. We can't easily get them in Aus (unless bought from LR for mental $$$$s). So I have just ordered a vehicle set... but got stung for VAT, and the seller wasn't willing to remove it. Bugger. Oh, well. New lights to be picked up on Thursday, and clips now on their way
SolihullBeast
There is a very good write up here I am looking to do this mod in the future HTH Sam
DiscoClax
There is a very good write up here I am looking to do this mod in the future HTH Sam Ah, yes. But that refers to the later '03 update "quad" lights. Not the single reflector '99-'02 ones. It is a good write up, though, for those looking to go the whole hog. DiscoClax
My brother picked up my new D2 headlights for me today. I'll get them on the weekend They look like they're the Magnetti-Marelli aftermarket ones off the OE tool (logo still there, but ground off). AU$210 for the pair, which I thought was quite reasonable. That'd be about £130 at current exchange rates, for those of you in the old country. Will post pics once fitted of before & after. Only two more sleeps.... Thanks for the advice.
