landrover598
Something like this ?
Porny
Low tension aren't around anymore AFAIK.... the unit they used to work from is now a football kit printers/sport kit outlet. But the above link isn't badly priced though.... The other place that sells the VDO stuff is Croytec - http://www.croytec.co.uk - not cheap though. headhunter
The one I bought from low tension is made by VDO and fits in well with the fuel and temp gauges. So I suggest finding a VDO retailer who should be able to help. John
02GF74
just curious, what triggers them since there is no igntion coil.
LandyManLuke
The W terminal on the alternator. it's taken off a winding, before its rectified, i.e the tacho sees a sine wave, rather than a pulse. I've got a VDO one, VDO are OEM manufacturers for a lot of makes, including LR. Luke

Luke yeqah, I knew that - ofcourse it goes to pot if the pulleys are not the original size. but if it didn't have this terminal, guess you can't? (well not easily )

MogLite
The tachos are adjustable, you set them up with a strobe connected to a petrol engine at a known speed Or just set it to factory idle speed when the diesel is idling. Try Merlin Motorsports for VDO stuff or egauges.com to mail order from the US
will_warne
Or just set it to factory idle speed when the diesel is idling. That's what I did and i fing it plenty accurate enough. Si, I assume you've got a Disco Alternator? IIRC the Defender one's don't have a W terminal.
LandyManLuke
Mine does, though it is a 65A alternator, originally fitted to air con models
simonb
200 and 300Tdi alternators usually have a w terminal as standard but it is hidden under a plastic cover. Its a bolt style terminal on the opposite side to the output terminal.
