Tuning TD5

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm in a predicament, I want to get a bit more power out my 90. Its got an Ali sport full size inter cooler, VNT from Pete at BELL and straight through exhaust along with EGT removal. The only thing i've not had do is remap.

My problem is I live in the channel islands and Bell who I would prefer to use are up in York. On top of a £200 ferry bill its a 5/6 hour drive so a few tanks of fuel plus the cost of the tune and the reverse journey and accommodation.

Is there any body down south that people would trust to do a good tune? Or am I just gonna have to get saving?

Thanks

TD5 Alive use "agents" I think, I know our local independant can do tuning with them from a distance (over the internet I guess??).

Might be worth giving them a call and seeing if they can do something similar for you?

PS - not had this done, just what I have been told. I'm sure someone will correct me

Send that ECU of yours via mail to Gary at Alive tuning! You won´t be disappointed... Or if you or some friend of yours has a Nanocom, upload your .se1- file and send it as an email attachment to Gary and he will send you a tuning file which you can then download to your car. Your car has to have the newer programmable NNN500020 ECU though. Otherwise only via mail.

Ian at IRB is near Sutton Coldfield, so not as far as you thought, but still not exactly a quick 'pop over to the mainland'...

Definitely worth ringing him (and/or others) as the flash-able ECUs can be done by post. Using next day delivery it could mean only a few days without your truck...

However....... There is onething against the postal option.... When I took my Disco up to Ian, he ran a check on all of the injectors etc to make sure they were all functioning properly before the tune. Then on the test-run after the remap, we drove around with the computer plugged in to make sure there were no ill effects.

You may even find that Ian may volunteer to meet you somewhere. It was certainly an option when I spoke to him. As long as you are buying lunch, I'm sure he could be convinced...

With all the work you have already had done from a range of different suppliers I think that an 'off the shelf' map won't give optimum results. Really you need fine adjustments on a dyno to make the most of them all. That means someone with a dyno who can design and programme the maps.

Would speak to Ian(porny) at IRB developments (www.irbdevelopments.com) he will definately sort it out, I am one very truly happy customer, and I garantee you will be amazed at what he can make a td5 do! Especially with a vn turbo and big intercooler( alisport ones small compared to the ones he fits!)

:P
