Puffernutter
All, I am getting fed up with my Disco bonnet, regardless of how I adjust it, it either needs Geoff Capes to open it, or a slight gust of wind and it's on the safety catch! So, I'm going for the "slight gust of wind" option, the easy way out and I plan to fit bonnet pins! Are there any reccomendations for a size/type/style? Cheers Peter
FridgeFreezer
You can sometimes find stainless ones in Halfrauds for decent money. Don't buy the flush-mount plastic things, they're a massive PITA.
landroversforever
I have some stainless ones like these: http://www.passionauto.co.uk/products/exterior/bonnet-pins/silver-metal-car-bonnet-pins.php fitted when I got the truck . I personally wouldn't get the aerocatch ones... apparently they don't like being filled with mud/sand/crud/small people
Range Rover Blues
I don't know if the Disco one is the same but I've had RRC boneet catches that were the same. What's happening os the slider inside the lock is sticking so it hardly catches and on the RRC it's caused by the bonnet lock mechanism bending so the catch can't slide very far. It needed removing and tapping flat with a hammer then a bit of adjustment on the cable and things were much better.
doda456
Make sure you leave the safety catch on . It means that in the unlikely event of the pins failing there is a back up. I have pins fitted to my disco after suffering exactly the samed problems.
TDi.Si
I've fitted pins to mine. My bonnet cable got so stiff I could barley open it. Final straw was when I pulled it so hard, slipped and ripped my nail off my index finger on the undertray of the dash!
Underdog
Some info here Pete, might help. Bonnet Pin Install Linky
sheltie50
Are you sure it's not just the latch or cable sticking or the return spring has fallen off, might be worth some oil and a new cable.
Range Rover Blues
I snapped the cable on a 22 year old RRC, now it's much easier to open with the remains of the cable that pokes out behind the top of the grille. One thing I would ask about bonnet pins is how you guys lock your bonnets?
