Anderzander
Does anyone know what the blank under the dash shroud was used for ? Here's one with a switch fitted: I read somewhere that the V8's had a switch there, can anyone confirm that?
cackshifter
And also if anyone knows (almost on topic), what was the hole with the rubber mushroom in for (visble in the pic also)? Nigel
Anderzander
Nigel - I think that was for the choke on the petrol engined models.
ScottinAZ
I have two NAS V8s - there is nothing in that switch blank. Also, always thought the hole with the round plug was for a hand throttle-- basically a throttle that could be used for stationary PTO applications. Quagmire
I can confirm that the hole on the column is for a choke. That is where the choke is on both my 90 (originally a 2.25 petrol) and my Dad's factory v8 110.
PaulMc
Does anyone know what the blank under the dash shroud was used for ? I don't think that a switch was fitted there as standard, it's for optional switches. The parts book shows optional switches for accessories, auxiliary lights and fuel tank changeover. Callouts #16, #17, #20, #21 and #22, here - http://www.numcat.ru/landrover/p/31/52888/ I've moved my instrument illumination switch up there, to make room for something else on the 3 switch panel. Also, always thought the hole with the round plug was for a hand throttle-- basically a throttle that could be used for stationary PTO applications. No, it's definately for a manual choke on early petrol engined vehicles. The hand throttle is fitted on the bulkhead, adjacent to the fuse box - LH side for RHD, RH side for LHD - http://www.numcat.ru/landrover/p/31/53774/ You can see the hand throttle control on my 110, here - . mickeyw
Yes, the gromet is definitely the choke cable position. Mine used to have one before I injected I have the hand throttle assembly depicted above (bulkhead bracket and cable only), and will get round to fitting it one day and with a means of connecting it to the 3.9 throttle assy. @ScottinAZ - your NAS models are injected engines and therefore have no choke. As for the switch vacancy, my factory V8 model never had a switch there. It does now though, (switches from a Morris Marina or other BL car of that era fit perfectly) and is for my front spot lights. Anderzander
Excellent info Now I just need to think of a use for a switch there. It always cried out for me to put a switch in there.....
western
the switch on the dash underside is/was for twin fuel tank fitted vehicle to operate or select what tank you wanted to draw fuel from otherwise listed as the 'fuel tank changeover' switch.
