mudmuncher Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Hello everyone I noticed when greasing the props that my front diff flange have up and down play I know they have a little bit of rotational play but if I hold the pinion I can move it up and down , would this be the input bearing worn eg flange off replace bearing or would it be a complete diff strip down ?? nicks90 Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 You hit the nail on the head, diff should not have any lateral play - only rotational. Yep, replace the bearing should fix it. So can I just check the following I can replace this with the diff still in the vehicle ??? Hybrid_From_Hell Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 It will be the tail bearing This will allow the flange to move up and down which will FUBAR the pinion seal this will let water in and at the right angles oil out IMHO not a DIY job, esp if you wnat to reset backlash etc or if the head bearing or carrier bearings are also on there way Nige Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
