Bowie69
There's a linkage, IIRC there's a housing that bolts to top of gearbox, and then links down to the T-box, but many moons since I played with a BW, even though I do like them. jad
that gearstick picture is different to what it was at work... Voodoo is at work! but is the tbox linkage like the top of bottom? in my finest paint skills....

jad
Little update, Been making some seat rails for the different seats and also looking at what I can do for doors. I have some ali military door tops that just need a paint in my chosen colour. The front doors I have are a bit of a state so am tempted to get some more from ashtree land rover. I am looking to repair the rear door though as it isnt too bad though. Cheers Jad
jad
Good evening! Well its been a long time since we have managed to crack on with some work on this due to (my) other vehicles problems... Firstly the volvos water pump started to leak. Now that normally wouldnt be a huge amount of work, but on this engine the water pump is driven by the timing belt. It also tensions the timing belt!.... Stupid design if you ask me... While we were in that deep we decided to also do the head gasket as I had suspicions that it might be a bit low on compression on a couple of cylinders. Anyway found this present and correct on every cylinder. Apparently thats normal practice on the majority of engines and not worth worrying about unless you can get your finger nail in them. The upshot is it now all back together and I think runs a bit better and has lost its misfire at idle Just need to finish torquing the head bolts in about another 900km. On the downside the TVR has decided to let its clutch fluid out of the master cylinder (My cars are playing as a tag team at least!) On to the series.... My dad took the parts we made to the galvanisers. We then got around to putting the roof on and discovered something new... Doh! Yeah just a slight misalignment So we spent the whole of Saturday trying to rectify this. Were not quite there but have made good progress. We started by unbolting the rear of the tub to drop it as low as possible. We found that the fuel tank was holding the rear of the tub up slightly after it had come down a bit. We made the mounts for the fuel tank so obviously positioned it a little high. After dropping the tank further the tub came down more. We redrilled the tub and bolted it back in. Then we went to the front of the tub and unbolted it from the chassis. and loosened the sills. We then jacked it up to bring it flat with the roof. Fitted all the roof bolts and tightened them. We also fitted the drivers door to see how the spacing was. While the gap seemed a little short it is ok. We are yet to redrill the front of the tub as we also noticed that the tub is off from left to right When it rains it poors right? While the tub is inline with the bulkhead on the drivers side it appears to be 1.5cm outboard on the passenger side.... News to me. I thought the bulkhead would be the same width as the tub! Does this seem correct? Our plan is to fit the passenger door (now everything else is square) and see how it fits and whether to worry about it. Unless anyone has any better ideas??? Cheers Jad
ejparrott
Bulkhead and tub should be the same width

daslandroverman
Looks an excellent quality build by all standards. I've been pondering one for my 110 CSW,and still trying to decide if I should stick with the Autobox, or go manual. Am I right in thinking the Tdi flywheel bolted on with only the centre boring out some, and machining down to fit the Toyota ring gear? Also, would you be willing to share your CAD file for the adapter? At present I have a good Disco R380 which would be ideal to go behind a 1zu-fe. Apologies for the many questions, but your adapter setup seems the best so far for a Land Rover from what I've found online.
jad
Yes thats how the tdi flywheel fitted. If i was doing it again I would also be tempted to plug the flywheel bolt holes with dowels (A good tight fit) and have the dowels drilled to the correct PCD of the lexus engine. If I have any problems with the flywheel then I will be doing this. I dont mind sharing the cad file at all. Bearing in mind that its not fully tested and therefore not my responsibility if it doesnt work... I also designed it for a V8 (I think) R380 box. As the diesel input shaft is different then the spacer may need changing in thickness to align everything. When I decided on the thickness of the adaptor/spacer it was to position the gearbox the correct distance from the flywheel. This put the input shaft if I got it correct about 1.5mm from touching the back of the engine. So it definitely needs some careful checking.... PM me your e-mail address and I can send it over. Then PM me when I also forget Jad
daslandroverman
Many thanks, I've sent a PM.If I can work out the dimentions to make the V8 box work then my 101 project might end up with the same...
jad
Another small update. At that annoying part of the project finishing things off! No massive jobs just a long list of things to tick off and then extra problems after problems where everything takes longer than it should! I now have 3 doors on the car! We replaced the bottom section of the rear door and gave it a full paint. Its now black and fitted on the vehicle. I bought new doors for the front as the original ones were a bit far gone. These are on the car and now lock In the picture of the rear door in a nice shade of pink you can just see the extra fuel filter I mounted in the rear wheel arch. The previous filter was only small and kept blocking up due to some crud in the tank. Hopefully this filter will last longer and after a couple of changes not have any problems. Time will tell... I have added some mudflaps in the front wheel arches to stop stones hitting the bulkhead footwells. The seats are mounted in the car (now just one seat as there was a drain on the battery which killed it.... Thank you for replacement halfords!) Seats mount on the original series seat runners. I also burgled an underwing squirter tank in there as there wasnt room for the others. The floor pans are now sealed and bolted. Im sure there is more but I cant really remember.... Soren Frimodt
Happy to see some solid progress on this thing. You should be able to have your first drive (launch/take-off) this Summer then?
jad
Soren, I am really hoping that it wont take much longer! We have a list of things to do, they are generally very simple, but seem to be taking a lot of time! Then we keep finding other things that need doing which prevents us from doing the things on the list. Like we put the rear door on then found it was rubbing on the finisher that runs along the rear of the tub which turns out has rusted a significant amount underneath to bulge up. Obviously none of the screws undo so need grinding off etc etc Its all quite frustrating really! Not home for a few weeks so that doesnt exactly help.... At least if its not done by winter and we have lots of snow the TVR will be a good laugh? Jad
jad
Right here we go. A lot more done now. In fact we are going to be booking an MOT for probably 13th June Least its not a Friday! Not everything is here just yet. Waiting for my dad to up load a few more pics and a video just for the noise of course Here is a fair amount of what has happened since the last update. My dad re-coated the dash and made a cover for the megasquirt and fuses all the floor pans are in and doors now on that actually lock! A lot of painting has been done also decided to straighten up the gearstick as it probably was a little far back

Adam001
Looking smart, how much longer you reckon...or is it one of those "I keep thinking not long but the reality keeps kicking me in the ass"? Keep thinking I need to get mine in some mud!
jad
Its done Want to put some narrower tyres on. Looking for some 7.50's Road/All terrain biased. After that it will probably just be trouble shooting and any mods that I decide to do... Does that mean its done or it will never be done? Either hopefully on the road within a couple of weeks and then can do some more megasquirt tuning Some more photos

Soren Frimodt
That thing has turned into one mean sleeper that's for sure! I like the latch for locking the bonnet so no one can see what's underneath
daslandroverman
Got a set of 235/85r16 Enduro all terrains on my 110, not bad tyres for the money. If you're being a bit more frivolous then a set of BFG AT's or Cooper ST's would be my vote.
jad
Its just for a little security. Dont like the thought of anyone being able to open the bonnet too easily.... I'm looking for some 7.50 tyres. The ones on there are 235/70 so looking for narrower and taller. Jad
muddy
750 SATs for a truly underpant munching ride Perhaps a 235/85 wouldn't look as wide being higher in the wall? Will.
