I think its further away than it looks in this picture. I am not worried about it. If it shows any signs of melting ill find a stainless braided jobby to put in its place.

Cheers

I did wonder whether the picture made it look closer than it actually is.

I'll have a check when im home next. My brother has a brake pipe closer to his rover v8 exhaust in his defender and he has never had any problems. Although that is a hard line.

Well another update as usual its been far too long! Progress is however being made :) There are just so many little jobs to tick off the list!

My dad the electrical man! has made a start on the wiring loom! :D He is a little indecisive so does change his mind now and again and again.. But a plan is being formulated and wires are being laid. Come this weekend we may even try and start the engine :-o We were planning to turn it over this weekend but that didnt happen so watch this space....

The air intake plumbing is mostly all together bar a boss for the MAT sensor.

There is also engine oil, coolant and power steering fluid in the engine! Although the coolant did leak a bit all over the floor for a while first.... This means the car has a dipstick! slightly reshaped as its the toyota sump with the lexus exhaust manifolds but should do the job.

and theres that....

Need to find pictures of the power steering hoses.... I have also bought some heat resistant sleeve to go around the loom so will also put some on fuel pipe and the clutch hose to be on the safe side even though I think they will be fine..

The engine even now turns over :D but doesnt start :(

Unfortunately I cant go home for another 3 to 4 weeks so it will be a while before it fires in to life! But it will give my dad time to redo some of the wiring he is bound to imminently change his mind about.... :P

Im hoping its the ignition switch. It has a very small segment at which it actually works so if you go through it to quick you just get the pinion firing out or nothing. If not I have a spare. Its just a bit of a pain in the arse to change as its in the valley!

starter works fine when you hold the key in precisely the right position. unfortunately there is only one degree or less of rotation where it makes contact with the starter position. I was working on the basis it may get better with use

the wiring scheme is completely standard

front wings are discovery 1 but swapped side to side to keep people guessing

engine is pretty much standard lexus

the dash is lots of different colours, some land rover, some lexus, some megasquirt, some I haven't quite worked out yet

There are fuse boxes here, here and here and, in the event of an emergency, pretty sparks should guide people to the correct location

Right, so today we have made up ignition leads and tried to start the engine for the first time since getting it! We then connected the fuel pump ;) and tried again..... The engine is cranking about 160-190 rpm, we are getting the occasional backfire and the occasional fire causing the engine revs going to rise up to 380 then straight back down to cranking speed.

Unfortunately experience is currently letting us down a bit at the moment. It would be nice to get the engine running of its own accord this weekend...... Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Heres a video of it trying to start.... Anyone have any ideas? and the noise at the end is my dads 300tdi! :P

The MAP sensor is also constantly reporting 100kPa. How do you calibrate these? (In MS2...) Have searched but what i try doesnt seem to change anything :glare:

Thanks

Jad

I think 100kpa is 1bar which atmospheric, so that sounds right.

Things i've checked in the past:

- Is there fuel coming out of the fuel rail? (Just incase you have the wires the wrong way round and you're sucking all the fuel out of the rail!)

- Is there spark?

- Is the laptop reading and engine speed as you may have the wires round the wrong way.
