need4speed
Ok so im in the middle of modifying my main harness to suit my needs. Im having to remove a lot of stuff that i dont need and therefore making it a lot smaller/neater. I was wondering how people go about removing the big rubber bungs that go into the bulkhead. Both of them seem very tight to the point that they dont seem to want to move. Also, can these be purchased separately? I seem to remember seeing them on ebay but last time i looked couldnt see them? need4speed
No i think you misunderstand. I can get them in and out of bulkhead easy enough. Its removing them from harness i mean. So i can remove wires from loom properly..
Maverik
Boom... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200681112419?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 And you just have to undo the tape and unwrap the bundle of wires, if you're using a knife... you do it very carefully indeed... steve200TDi
If you're just removing wires, could you not leave it on and just slide it up and down to remove tape and retape etc. As it could be a bit of a pain to push all the connectors through. Just a thought. Steve P.S. I don't know what its started to write out from the right?
Tanuki
Heat the bungs in some hot water - this softens them. Then use washing-up-liquid as a lubricant.

need4speed
Thanks for all the advice chaps I will try removing the wires without removing them if i can once ive removed all the tape. If that doesnt work i'll try the silicon grease as Les suggests. Phil
Three Blades
When you get around to recovering the loom, I suggest that you see if you can find an alternative to the corregated split cover that is used as standard. I suffered from some rubbing between the corregations and the cables that caused a nasty short circuit. Wrap it up with loom tape (non stick insulation tape) and then put it into something else as a main cover. I ended up using a rubber water pipe as it seemed to fit the bill and offered even, flexible protection. However it has not been on for long so I cannot comment on its longevity. need4speed
Fair point. I was actually going to just use loom tape, then finish it off with heatshrink.
NickMc
Yeah i'd wrap the loom and find something other than the ribbed conduit, it's starting to cause a world of pain on the older td5's now
Ibex94
Think I've got a couple of the bungs in the garage from my loom capers. Yours for the postage if you want em. Rob
