henk
Is it possible to change all the pulleys on a 200tdi to ribbled types so you could run larger alternators?
dirtydiesel
Why not just use a larger section vee belt? My experience is that the bearings last much much longer on vee belt systems, this is because a serpentine belt drives on tension whereas a vee belt relies on surface area. henk
True, but can you run a 175A alternator on vee belt?
dirtydiesel
2x A Series belts would drive it with ease
Maverik
Maybe an easier option would be to run 2 belts as apposed to a serpentine type arrangement.
Lewis
2x A Series belts would drive it with ease I see your A and raise you to a C, well more like lower you to a C We run 200amp 24v alternators on 2x C belts

Lewis
Sorry no pictures We use gates belts, I have the part number at work but not to had at present

LandyManLuke
Have a look at www.beltingonline.com, it gives details on the profiles, as well as available lengths. Prices are reasonable too.
Lewis
Blimey Lewis, whats the alternator off? It's a Belmar marine alternator
elbekko
You mean a 300TDi?
Lewis
You mean a 300TDi? Do I mean a 300tdi? No, the setup I'm describing is not fitted to a land rover engine, it uses 2x c section vee belts driven from crank pulley to run water pump and alternator. It's the standard fit for that vehicle but with an aftermarket alternator mount and the larger alternator I describe above. We sometimes experience belt slip when all four batteries are discharged completely but under normal conditions drawing 150 amps at fast idle (1100rpm) there is no slipSo while my example is not directly relevant to your 200tdi application I merely use it as a reference that vee belts can be use to drive high power accessories
elbekko
It was in reply to the OP, a 200TDi with a serpentine setup is a 300TDi...

Nigelw
You mean a 300TDi? No Ben, Henk wants to take off the Vee pulleys and convert to serp type pulleys and belt to run a bigger alternator, think his Ferrari is getting closer to completion I considered it as I had an offer of a good 100A alt off a 300 and with having an A/C compressor for OBA that is serp pulley I wondered if it was possible? But in all honesty junked it due to the extra strain on the water pump bearings, 300s were designed and built to run tension and serp configuration where as a 200 was Vee belt designed for contact not pressure!!! But having said that I did look at having a custom crank pulley made just to run the compressor and extra alternator, still on the board as just wanna finish my beast first.
