  1. It won't rust if you put it in the engine bay... Yep, I know the drill...coat on, etc...
  2. It's a hotwire not a flapper, but I'll double check. Not sure if I've enough leeway to move the sensor that much (could slacken the pulley stack and move the trigger wheel, I guess), and anyway I want to leave the limp home mode (10deg fixed) usable on both petrol and LPG. Will get some pics - probably at the weekend with a decent camera. You've seen most of the interesting bits before, though - apart from the alloy brackets Geoff Greenwood fabricated for me months ago it's just a few bits of Ford and a wiring loom.
  3. Half way through installing the Megasquirt'n'EDIS in the truck - hopefully get it all up and running this weekend (yeah...right... ). So... does anyone have any maps and/or sensor definitions to get me started? I'm running a standard 3.5 RV8 (hotwire flavour), all the sensors are standard OEM ones barring the air temperature sensor, which I think is the 'default' Megasquirt one (a 3K thermistor kindly supplied by Fridgefreezer). Ignition is EDIS 8 and will have separate maps for petrol and LPG. A couple of questions too: Am I right in thinking the idle ignition advance on petrol should be 8deg? EDIS does a minimum advance of 10deg, so I'm thinking it might be worth offsetting the sensor a couple of degrees and adjusting the ignition timing maps accordingly? Will my timing light work okay with EDIS? It's wasted spark so the plugs fire on the exhaust as well as ignition stroke - obviously this will trigger the light twice as often as on a conventional system, but the balance weight timing mark will still be at the same angle for both events, won't it? TIA
  4. Does the P38 have an inhibit switch? I thought that was only on the classic?
  5. As far as I could see alternative fuel (I presume this would cover LPG) was cheaper but certainly not free. Can't find the detailed pages on the BBC website now, though - in fact they've pretty much buried the budget already...
  6. Depends what they're running it on - that's more than a months fuel for me, doing high mileage in a 3.5V8 but on LPG.
  7. I specifically asked about that when I insured my Range Rover with the NFU - they said it's covered on my policy. Ouch! Are you sure it's just young drivers, or is it some other factor? I insure my '93 Range Rover with them - admittedly it's only worth a couple of grand (although it didn't seem to make any difference when it was insured for four), but I'm 29, I have fully comp cover for any driver over 25, 22K a year mileage and I live in a relatively high car crime area of Birmingham. About £750/year, including interest for paying monthly installments. No problems with non-performance enhancing mods, although it did take a while to sort out permission for the Megasquirt'n'EDIS, and I've got to get an engineers report done on that once I've installed it. Edited to say: They don't need an engineers report into the engine change though... I've never had to claim from them, but they weren't too bad when I had to notify them of a slight mishap on the M6 last year (shed load ). I did have to correct two or three serious mistakes in the details they recorded, but they did at least deal with that properly within their normal processes.
  8. www.auctionsniper.com Works on any eBay auction - I use it all the time, mainly so I don't have to sit around waiting for auctions to finish if I don't want to push the price up bidding early. If you put in stormadeus as the referrer I get some free snipes
  9. I wonder what the CO2 g/km are for a 3.5V8 Range Rover running on LPG? Yes, I know it's irrelevent unless I choose to get it certified for emmisions (probably a bad idea...) - just curious How would you go about calculating it?
  10. It's not a signal, it's the actual power supply so probably relatively high ampage. Not really suitable for wiring into the key barrel.
  11. Building the wiring loom for the Megasquirt and EDIS at the moment. Where's the best place to pick up an ignition switched 12V supply for the coil packs and EDIS controller? I could just run them back under the drivers seat with the wiring to the Megasquirt and pick it up there, but I guess I should pick it up close to the immobiliser? Where is that, anyway? I'm not all that fussed about the security angle - any car thief with half a brain will just cut the loom in the engine bay and connect it straight to the battery anyway. It might get patched in under the seat for now and moved later if the 'right' place is a pain to get at.
  12. Won't be now... You moving from the flat then, Fi?
  13. The G4 one I borrowed didn't have it - not that that's exactly conclusive. Don't think the other one we had did, either.
  14. If the chassis wasn't so rough, I'd be tempted... She doesn't stand up to closer inspection though - plenty of tin worms have dined on her
  15. I don't run to an engine crane either...
  16. No idea where to get new ones (though I'd be surprised if you can't get them) - there's always the option of replacing the unit with one from a scrap car.
  17. There're 35 of me and none of them are me...but I think I know why This is based on the electoral register and I opted out of the 'we can sell your details to anyone we like' option, so I guess this website uses the restricted commercial version of the electoral roll. Mind, here's one that's also supposedly based on government data (from the land registry): http://www.houseprices.co.uk/ In my street most of the houses are the wrong type. Mine's a semi but listed as terraced - my next door neighbour's end terrace is listed as detached...
  18. Begging hat on... I couldn't trouble you for a copy of your ignition timing table, could I?
  19. Shotgun not recommend though. Try the holy hand grenade.
  20. One of the tables in the database got corrupted (only the sessions table, nothing with important data in it). Trev and I managed to sort it out - been back up for a fair while now though, don't think it was down that long.
  21. Looks quite tame by Rob's standards Last time I was up there his wood burner and most of its chimney was glowing red with the aid of a bit of old oil
