  1. IMHO, Id move the VIC check until you have it insured and then drive it there. Also shop around with the insurance (there is plenty of advice on this site). Be careful to check the insurance of the towing vehicle, as most likely it wont cover the vehicle on the back of the trailer (surprised me when I looked) if it does you need to make sure that the maximum claim linit would not be breached (if there is one) if the towing vehicle, trailer and your 110 were nicked or written off.
  2. IMHO stick with the original independant (i.e MUDSTUFF) as opposed to others, this way we continue to pay the innovators as opposed to the box shifters. Nothing against craddocks you understand.
  3. I used to work for this lot, and they had similar cooling packs http://www.setrab.com/uploads/media/Product_brochure_STD_english_01.pdf
  4. OK so the front outrigger bit was an attempt at humour... Anyway, Im assuming that lightweight and series II chassis are very similar (see Richards Chassis)... I posted a question on the Military forum re steering guards, but I know things are a bit quieter, over there [Humour alert] and they are probably all cammo'ed up and thats why I cannot see them [/Humour alert] . So if lightweight and Series II chassis are very similar, the steering guard must also fit both....
  5. its a 'front outrigger' then ? Now is it a series or lightweight ? (or are they the same?)
  6. Did a landy garage clearance, and this was in the job lot. Any ideas which model its from ?
  7. Just done a house clearance (only the landy bits mind) and the chap was a keen lightweight fan (but also had a 101). He said that everything I had was for a lightweight including this steering guard.. . Its too small for my 110, but I dont see anyone who makes them for lwts... Anyone help ?
  8. Closer to home... http://cgi.ebay.co.u...me=STRK:MESE:IT and a nice line in internal LED's http://cgi.ebay.co.u...me=STRK:MESE:IT I fitted a set to my 110 and the current draw is so low I did not need to use a relay or have the indicator trailer light flashing.
  9. I know that Defenders get lots of attention from the Police in Kent, and if they are seen driving at odd hours then they might be followed and checked, but I seriously doubt that any force has the resources to stop all vehicles that in a category of 'highly nickable'. Unfortunatly crims seems to have spare plates and often steal to order. Its always good (IMHO) to have a small amounf of paranoia if your a Defender owner. If I see a vehicle follow me for more than a few turns on the way home, I make a detour and or note its details (but again thats just me).
  10. I know there have been discussions on the forums relating to legal advice on our Land Rovers, and some of the replies helpfully link to the government websites for construction & use etc. This website allows plain english type searches and often may help you get the CORRECT answer as opposed to forum members opinions (which are no less valid, but may not be legally correct). Anyway, the site is here Ask the Police. Im sure you could find out why they are "not out catching 'real criminals' "as well if you want, but thats an old cliché and no one really says that any more do they ?
  11. I like em, but I had two sets and could not get local tyre companies to balance them as they all said the spokes coming out of the front meant their machine could not centre them... Im sure there must be a way around this, but when I had them I tried at least five or six large/small organisations - all same result. In the end a truck tyre place got them balanced....
  12. Dont suppose its the last of the 'loose oil filter oil' thats finally found its way down is it ?
  13. When you say flush fitting, are you meaning a bezel or somehow cutting the NAS lights into the rear without bezels ? I had these fitted to my old 90 (sadly sold last year). I can get you a price of something similar if you want ? Or you can leave the orginals and fit LED's up higer
  14. 1 is diagnostic socet (testbook/Nanocom etc) 2 ? 3 looks same as mine except for the grey conduit and connections on the right side of the photo.
  15. I thought the problem with earlier 90s was that they had drum brakes on the rear and the size of the brake drum often fouled the inside of alloy.... A later rear axle with disc brakes (or a converted Disco one remove 3bolt input shaft and fit a 4 bolt) and that would be cheaper than a £150.00 set of spacers.
  16. Pinny, Are you looking to use them on or off road ?
  17. I can supply special tinted glasses that would give it a virtual beige appearance, but in some light it would still look dark grey... Or you could look at it during night hours under sodium lights ?
  18. Im thinking of launching a new product but dont have a Disco any more to measure up. If anyone can bring their Disco 1 (or 2) to East Kent (near Dover) for an hour or two, they can take away a free dark grey chequer plate vinyl carpet replacement for their time. I have a D1 carpet to use as a pattern, but need to verify fitment and also take a couple of pictures of the mat in place. PM me if your interested so we can organise a convenient time. Thanks Nic
  19. My 110 2002 Td5 had similar alarm issues. I had previously replaced the plunger on the driver door (it was missing when I got the vehicle) with a second hand item from a Disco (looked same). It wasn't until I put genuine new part on the driver door, that it behaved. its a cheap fix if it works...
  20. Would the Shocklink help ? Its hideously expensive but if it makes your towing easier ....
  21. So a full service on the Defender 110 turns out to take a bit longer than I wanted thanks to a 6mm bolt shearing in the rotary oil filter housing (one of the two that keeps the lid on). Tried drilling, but access a broblem so have done a temp repair by drilling all the way through (old threads gone) and putting a bolt with nut on the bottom. Not an ideal solution, but need the vehicle for Monday and a new part is around £150 (thats the complete housing). No leaks so far (its held nice and tight) but the lower part of the housing is webbed and this means that I need to male up a washer/spacer that is tapered. Anyone else had similar problems? I could go up to M8 and tap a new thread in the housing at this larger size ? Apart from that the 110 drives very very well indeed (now that it has 140,000 its just run in !)
  22. Hi Chris, As your not a million miles from me, why not come down and drive my 110 which has the Disco gears and now the full Td5 Alive remap, larger intecooler and Turbo boost. IMHO it makes the whole driving experience much more pleasurable. Also last week I drove back from the midlands with a full 3.5t on the trailer (er load inc trailer before anyone asks) and it drove like a dream. You dont need a passport for this end of Kent !
  23. The thing about a forum is you get a good mix of people some are new and ask questions, and others have been here for a while and also give their answers (which may or may not be helpful) still, what keeps the forum fresh is the wealth of new people coming in for friendly advice and most of the time getting it. I would never have anything else than a Td5 (and Ive had all of them), my current 110 has over 140,000 miles and still starts on first turn of the key and has been very reliable. I dont know how you would get on with importing from another European country, but it should be quite straightforward if you dont have to end up paying import duties etc. This one looks nice (needs a hard top for your country I suppose) and a quick search on ebay.fr shows absolutely loads of left hand drive vehicles. Anyway, good luck in finding your vehicle !
  24. Car is fine, but your house needs a little TLC Still at least your priorities are in the right order.
