  1. Great idea with the rust effect but I painted the last one I had with an old galv chassis in matt black which looked ok but I always liked the faded galv look so think I will stay with the galv look chassis but buy more security for it
  2. Yeah from what I can remember they was just proud of the doors and front of the rear wings so a door of another car would hit them rather than hit the door / body work of the 2a, I could get the other type with the built in tree slider but the tree slider part would stick out quite a lot and I would probably need extended wheel arches and wide tyres which I don't want and would look daft on a 2a so think the Mill sevices ones would look and do the job better
  3. Took the 90 on a 300 mile round trip yesterday to Angulsey to take some selling pic's of the 90 on the beach, the 90 ran great as usual and is now on ebay
  4. Just put an order in for a set of GME front parabolic springs, an Elring head gasket set inc HG and front and rear oil seals, I will order the rear springs next pay day as I want the front end firmly on the ground so I can refit the engine once the oil seals are done ( replacing new BP seals with Bearmach seals ) then I can fit the head gasket and everything else with the engine in as its safer torqueing the head down than with the engine on the bench
  5. Yeah I mite get some ordered soon so I'm not waiting when the 2a is near done
  6. Thanks to you both, yeah it was the mill service ones I had last time but I thought they wasn't trading anymore so if they are I will order some more
  7. Hi guys Can anyone tell me if anyone still makes rock slider's to suit a 2a / 3 SWB the flush ones without the tree slider on as I had them on my last one and they were great for when parked up in a car park
  8. Well the engine's out, the springs are off and the chassis chocked up on the axles temporary so I can move it in one piece as I am off in a couple of weeks and need to put some extra shelving up in the garage so I will need to move it plus I want to get the oil seals replaced ready for when I get the new Para's
  9. Finally got the 2a back into the garage yesterday as we had a couple of niggles with the 90 in the week stopping us getting the 2a moved in the week so tomorrow I can start removing the engine to replace the BP oil seals for Bearmach or Gen ones, remove the new std leaf springs and fit new Para's once I get them but until then I can concentrate on the engine as I had left it with the head off with the block face oiled and covered aswell as having a tarp covering the whole thing whilst being stud out in the garden for the past few months, I have checked the engine block and everything is as I had left it so no worries there so I can carry on building the engine ready for refitting once the new Para's are on
  10. From what my dad used to say was that the army always used to run stuff de-rated so they wouldn't be loaded to the hilt in need of getting out of a situation so although it may carry a ton they would only carry up to 3/4 ton but someone else from an army background may be able to verify.
  11. Yeah son keeps harping on about getting a D1 so I will have my 2a and if he needs my help I will help him with it as he wants a V8 one
  12. If its a std diff and you are going to buy a replacement one try and look for a front diff as they don't get used as much as a rear one as if its been used with fixed hubs ( std ) the diff free wheels meaning it rotates but doesn't have any weight on it if you no what I mean and if FWH's was used the diff wouldn't turn at all if the hubs were turned off, or if you know your front diff is a good one swap it into the rear and buy a replacement one for the front
  13. I know its a different animal but I did it with a S2a 2.25p engine years ago fitted a stag 2 head and it was really heavy on fuel, gutless on hills but was quite fast once you got it going, ended up going the 200tdi way in the end much better
  14. Haha cheers, yeah it will be sad to see it go with all the time and money we have put into it but think I am more suited to series rather than Defs series are more easier to work on but Defs are a far nicer drive but hey ho I still miss my old 2a and the new 2a will fill the hole the Def couldn't
  15. The 90 is more or less finished now just waiting for new matting to arrive for the rear tub floor and front floor plates then its done and ready for selling then from next weekend I will re-start work on the 2a starting with re-work removing all the BP stuff we fitted before we decided on selling the 90 and keeping the 2a so everything will be replaced with Bearmach or equivalent from now on
  16. Sadly these will be the last pic's of the 90 finished ready for being taken out to have its adverting pic's done ready for selling
  17. Well the 90 is more or less finished now just got to fit some new rubber matting to the rear floor and front floor plates when it comes, son took it out for a run last night so it will be up for sale soon once the matting fitted and pic's taken for advertising it
  18. Yeah tbh I was torn between buying new or second hand as either way they are very expensive and time was dragging on so we decided on buying the new SP ones as they come with everything inc door catches, slam plates / catches, window catches, galv door cappings and door top to capping seal and with the new door seals we fitted when we fitted the roof they fit perfectly and I am well pleased
  19. Are right I wasn't aware of that I will look round for a S3 one now
  20. All the work we have been doing on the 90 should all be done by the end of the week then I can get the 2a back in and start work on it again, can't wait now
  21. Fitted the SP front doors yesterday whilst son was on a job then when he came back he painted them but still need another coat yet and I forgot all about posting the pic's of the rear door fitted and painted so here are a few pic's
  22. Whilst we are at it we have decided on treating the 90 to a pair of SP series style door's as the original ones was worse than what we thought so just waiting for them to arrive, not had chance to do pic's yet but will do A.S.A.P.
  23. Has it got the H/Lights in the middle or on the wings as 68-71 should have the H/Lights in the wings with a cross style grill and not a S3 grill or earlier 2a grill, unless its been changed by a P.O. Mine is a 1970 2a which should have this but came with a S3 grill and rad panel and I am on the look out for a gen one if I can as it would have the spot welded brackets on for sitting the cross grill on then held on with a couple of screws at the top or center can't remember but if not I will just have to settle for a S3 rad panel and screw the cross grill to it when I get both items
  24. Had a nice surprise this morning went to my daughter's ( my ex wife's house ) to get some tools to help a mate put a shed up and found son was there doing stuff to the 90 he had fitted the screen / frame in place and was in the middle of fitting the roof on and said he will do some painting later so I will go round again tomorrow and have a look and take some pic's
