  1. Hi guys My 1970 2a swb ( 200tdi ) restoration has the flat type heater and Ive never run a series with a flat type heater before and just wondered which of the three heaters is best 1, 2a round type. 2, 2a flat type. 3, S3 type. What do you think
  2. Sometimes if they haven't been split in a long time you will need to give the engine a good shake and watch for a gap between the two and use a big screw driver / pry bar to help it along, just keep trying it will go
  3. Ok thanks very much for that, I looked on the Stage one forum ( not a member ) last night and read that no-one makes them anyway so have decided the only option I have really is to bit the bullet and get a 10 spline diff and re-use my old 10 spline half shafts and sell the diff and half shafts I have recently bought But again thanks for taking the time to look for me
  4. Finished off what I was hoping to do on Saturday which was check and adjust if needed the swivel tension ( by hand ) then top the swivels with oil then loosely fitted the steering arm from one of the swivel arms to the other as I need to get a relay and relay arms yet before I can fit the other arm
  5. Cheers guys, they are all sorted now not too tight and not too loose, obviously I will re-check them once I have used them a bit
  6. Think they would work but I have just been on the stage one forum and no-one makes them other than Kam and similar companies and they are mega expensive, good idea though cheers. Are well back to the 10 spline diff hunt then
  7. Ok are the flange ends the same as std 88 ones as in is there a felt washer and nut used to fit the shafts to the flange to stop oil getting past the shafts into the cap
  8. Arwww it looks like I need a 10 spline 3.54 diff now as with the 24 spline diff fitted I've bought the wrong half shafts which all fit but there is nothing to stop oil ending up in the 24 spline flange and have since been told I should have used a 10 spline diff instead which then allows me to use the old shafts, the only other way is to buy very expensive custom shafts so think it's easier and cheaper to go the 10 spline diff way
  9. I didn't get everything done what I wanted to do as I spent most of the day messing about with the half shafts so I will do the rest on Monday
  10. Are right does the o ring sit in the grove in the spline in the flange or on the outer to seal the cap
  11. I've recently fitted GBE Parabolics to my rebuild got them from paddocks and have used the same para's on my previous trucks and as been said I wouldn't be without them
  12. Yeah I think I have enough but I will get more just incase
  13. Cheers guys that's the way I've always done them but always ended up with slight heavy steering but possibly because I never replaced everything as I am on this one so it should be right this time
  14. Hi guys Is there such a thing as a 24 splined half shaft flange felt washer or does the std one do both as I have just come to fit a pair of new 24 spline rear half shafts and flanges to my 2a swb fitted with Disco1 Diffs 24 spline and I ordered the felt washers not thinking about the spline difference, if so can you give me the part number please
  15. Hi guys I know the tool for setting the swivels on a series truck is a pulling weight tool like a fisherman would use for weighing fish but if you don't have such tool is there anything else you can use instead, would the old gauge type torque wrench work pulling on a top arm bolt
  16. Sorry just realised what I wrote, I meant to say cab not the engine bay
  17. Sounds like its worn then and needs replacing A.S.A.P.
  18. All my bits I ordered the other day to finish off the axles have all come in now so weekend I will be fitting them
  19. Or grease it up and check again
  20. What do you recken to using that thick rubber matting that they use in a gym for the engine bay, I've seen it in Homebase's and son says he can get me a load free and it's thicker than homebase's
  21. They was fitted before the universal socket came out and is also the reason the wiring loom between the o/s rear lights to the tow plug needs extending as the original loom just went to where the old style socket was fitted although newer replacement looms probably now cater for the later plug normally fitted around the tow ball area.
  22. Cheers Arjan, yeah I need to order the rear 24 spline half shafts and flanges and a couple of other things for now just to finish off the axles off plus fill up with oil aswell then move onto the steering next month as sons wedding is slowing me down ATM, the sale of the 90 paid for the wedding but I still have other stuff to sort out for the wedding for myself as the wedding is in Cyprus
  23. Defs have the td5 rear X member on all chassis but this is the S2a chassis with a std rear X member but as you say the hole is for an earlier plug socket which I vaguely remember mainly on S1's and early S2a's
