New chassis arrived yesterday and now resting against the back wall of the garage, originally it was supposed to be going into storage at son's g/friend's dad's business premises whilst i finish off the front axle but as the axle should be finished this weekend we decided to bring it straight here instead so hopefully it should be sat on the springs in the next week or so, anyway here's some pic's -

Removed the diff yesterday to replace the gasket now the paint had dried and refitted the diff in place so weekend i can finish rebuilding the axle up. Son's g/friend's dad is collecting the chassis today from Richard's chassis with one of his Scaffolding wagons, taking it to his work place then dropping it off once i have finished the axle at the weekend Yipee -

Some pic' from the weekend removing the part finished rear axle from the trailer ( awaiting new drums and a RR diff to complete ) then yesterday loading the front axle onto the trailer and stripping it all down, de-painting and re-painting. The Def diff was only fitted with old gasket for painting as one unit so tomorrow I will remove the diff again and refit it with a new gasket and new nuts and washers -

Having a break from the 2a later today as I need to sort the garage out as its a tip in there now so once I have sorted the garage out I will start on the front axle on Monday but need to sorce a RR diff for the rear axle then I can fit the half shafts but if we have to we can fit that after the new chassis is sat on the axles. N/S/R Spring and plate now fitted inc the wheels for easy moving -

Sorry not been on for a couple of days, didn't get much done on Monday as the paint was still tacky so I could only fit the back pletes, new wheel cylinder's and brake shoes, rebuilt and fitted the rear hubs with new seals, bearings and lock nuts then tried fitting the rear springs but found who ever fitted them last had fitted the two N/S ones wrong meaning the front was on the back and visa versa so I could only fit the O/S/R Spring so later today I will strip the other plates down, clean up and paint ready to fit on Friday. Had an email from Richards saying the chassis should be ready next week so I will have to get cracking on the front axle A.S.A.P. -

I finally got round to painting the rear axle yesterday ready for rebuilding it back up tomorrow, then once its built up I will give it all another coat -
Ok I will speak to Andy and decide what to do
-
Ok just a thought as i have never stripped a diff before but is it possible to swap the internals from the Def diff into the 2a housing and how easy would it be to do
-
I can't weld but i need another diff anyway as I only have one 3.54-1 diff atm
-
Hi guys As you probably no I am rebuilding the axles on a 1971 S11a rebuild and the engine is being swapped for a Def 200tdi engine using Def / Disco diffs and atm I have started with the rear axle and using my old ( good ) diff from my 1988 90, the problem I have is and I have just noticed this is the rear 2a axle doesn't have a filler / level plug on the pan only a drain plug underneath and the 90's diff doesn't have a filler / level plug either, if I had started with the front axle I wouldn't have a problem as the front axle has a filled / level plug in the pan so checking and topping up the axle wouldn't be a problem. So what I want to know is are there any early 3.54-1 diffs with a side filler / level plug out there if so I will use this diff for the front instead.

Cleaned off all the old paint from the axle case then decided to drop the diff in place loosely so I could clean that aswell
