Rebuilt the bottom end up on Saturday after checking the crank and con rod's for play last weekend then today I removed the head check for play in the bores and that there are honeing marks which there is so everything looks ok there, the only thing I was a bit curious about was no 3 piston had more build up of carbon than the rest it other than that it looks ok, when I removed the rocker cover I found a round plate and screw in there don't know what it's off as it was nothing to do with the engine it didn't look damaged but there was only one screw and there was two holes in the plate but I couldn't find anything in the Pistons so I think the rocker cover had been off for some reason and some how the plate and screw was placed in there why I don't know, then before fitting the new Elring H/G I replaced the push rods just as a matter of course as they don't always get replaced then replaced the H/G and replaced the head bolts just need to fit the manifolds and it's ready for going in -
Ok no probz

I bought the BP Teflon ones from paddocks been on now for the best part of two years now with no probz. It's a shame they don't do them for series models as I would fit a pair on the series we are rebuilding

As for refitting everything back on ( gaskets ) are they all dry gaskets meaning no gasket slonk needed as when I removed the timing cover, case, sump and ladder frame there was no gaskets one either the sump or the ladder frame but loads of slonk, the timing cover and case had gaskets fitted with loads of slonk used -
Years ago in my then s111 swb i managed to melt a clutch release bearing cage when i got stuck in a hole at Castleford yorks so switched to a s11a box and never had the problem again, I hate plastic caged bearings

Removed the sump and ladder frame today, checked the con rods for play and with the engine on its side i can see that new pistons have been fitted although i haven't removed the cylinder head yet as i had to go out but than will be removed at the weekend now , the oil pump strainer looks clean, and other than the remains of the oil the sump is clean so up to now everything seems ok -

Is the other tranny box a higher geared one if so and is ok you could swap it over or keep to the setup you have and later fit an O/D

Possibly an early tranny box, the trouble with series boxes there are loads of them with different Suffixes on them but all inc the tranny boxes are all interchangeable so tend to get miss matched a lot. The higher the suffix A-XYZ means the higher the gearing in both g/box and tranny box so if you are after higher gearing idearly you need an higher suffixed tranny box your g/box is the average geared box meaning its not to low and not to highly geared but your tranny box mite be holding you back and feeling like you have lower gearing if you know what i mean, bit like fitting the highest gearing there is then fitting small wheels on
