  1. It might just be that the 12 year old bulb has had enough and blown. Pete.
  2. The double cardon prop I got from D4X4 is indeed greaseable and also came with the correct flanges so no need to replace the transfer box end. Pete.
  3. Are you sure it's the transfer box end of the props and not the diff end? if a Diff pinion bearing was loose it would cause a similar thing to happen. Pete.
  4. I was thinking about your starting issues and remembered that on mine the connector on the bottom of the glow plug relay had corroded quite badly, which gave me some starting issues, so coupled with the lack of light it might pay to have a look at the connector. The timer relay is attached to the back of the fuse box under the bonnet. You can see it in the picture you posted earlier. Pete.
  5. I can't really help more than I have as I gave up on the EDC and removed it all, before I figured out all the little bits of the system. Sorry. Pete.
  6. Mike, I think that the only problem with that is that no one will be able to meet you to take them onwards. I will have to keep an eye out for you. V8camel let me know when you are up this way and i'll sort out meeting up with you to make the exchange. Pete.
  7. The 1st shot is of the alarm module that contains the circuitry for the spider. Mine used to buzz with the ignition on but the engine not running (couldn't tell if it was buzzing with the engine running.) I disconnected a couple of the wire at the alarm module and grounded them this bypasses the spider which basically uses a relay to earth said wires. IIRC there are 3 black wires with an orange marker on one of the alarm module plugs, 1 is the earth into the unit the other 2 are the circuits that need earthing. Doing this on mine cured the problem I had which was the starter sometimes not operating, but had no effect on the cold start issues. Pete.
  8. I not sure anything does! The alarm siren may have been there on mine but it isn't anymore. HTH Pete.
  9. Mine used to do the same, New plugs made no difference on mine, The alarm/immobilser/spider is located behind the glove box I would put up a picture but I can't find it at the moment. I did find when I changed the injection pump to a none EDC one that the pump timing was out by one tooth and having changed to the mechanical pump and set the pump timing correctly it now starts without using plug heat no problem at all. HTH Pete. editted to add link thread with spider location picture.
  10. What he said. The ECU is located in the offside kick panel. There will also be a unit mounted on the firewall in the engine bay that monitors the boost. Pete.
  11. Our rather good technical archive contains THIS which may be of use. HTH Pete.
  12. As I have sold the wheels to Matt, I could meet up with someone at the bottom end of the M6 toll if that helps. Pete.
  13. Just booked me and SWMBO in for friday and saturday. See you there Pete.
  14. I thought that they were used on petrol engined cars because closing the throttle butterfly (ie when changing gear) causes the compressor to stall as without the dumpvalve the turbo is pressurising a closed tube. They are not generally used on diesels as most don't have a throttle butterfly so don't need it. Pete.
  15. If it has EDC it will not have a throttle cable but a potentiometer on the throttle pedal and a cable that runs from the throttle pedal to near the injection pump and then back towards the gearbox (kickdown cable) the injection pump will also have a large white (round connector) on it. If it is the same as the UK ones the main ECU is in the offside kick panel and the alarm/immobiliser (spider box) is in behind the glove box on the nearside. look like this:- should help locate it:- HTH Pete.
  16. Welcome to the forum. Is definately a friendly place and a mine of useful information. Pete.
  17. Hi all, Anyone got a paper element for a 300tdi discovery laying around that they could measure for me, I basically need length width and thickness. I need to make an airbox for my snorkel installation as I have been left with a crappy K&N type thing (by the previous owner) and I can't use the standard airbox as it will remove the ability to install a second battery under the bonnet. Cheers in advance, Pete.
  18. That's what I did on my last one and will be doing something similar to the Disco but drilling and tapping the tensioner for the aircon pump. Pete.
  19. I also seem to recall that the book top speed for a 300tdi disco is something like 92mph so with a 10% error you are possibly not doing as bad as you think. Pete.
  20. Do you mean 235/85/16 tyres rather than 235/65/16. because if you have 235/85/16 then your speed will be 10% out ie at 60mph indicated you will be doing about 66mph road speed. (that's assuming you haven't changed your speedo drive cog. You can remove the cat and blank off the EGR if that hasn't already been done, Then larger intercooler and a chip are about your only other options. Pete.
  21. Nicked from the Ashcroft site, this sounds similar:- I have a 4 speed ZF Auto and it sticks in first gear in the morning or when cold and is reluctant to change up from 1st gear. Once the gearbox has warmed up it shifts normally. Why? The governor valve is sticking, which can be caused by contamination. i.e. clutch plates or other parts disintegrating. The fine debris finds its way past the filter and tends to accumulate in the governor, causing it to stick. A temporary solution is to remove and clean the governor. The problem will often recur as debris from damaged parts continues to build up in the governor. If the problem continues after cleaning the governor then it may be necessary it replace your Autobox. We have noticed many customers reporting this fault starting a few days after an oil and filter change and after researching this using our experience and the expertise of others in the trade we have come to the conclusion that as ATF oil is a detergent type oil, when the oil is changed this will dislodge and stir up settled debris in the autobox which in turn jams the governor valve. In light of this although it sounds controversial it is debateable if changing the oil and filter is a good idea, some say if the box it going to fail it will fail if the oil is good or bad and their advice is leave it alone. I am still undecided but the truth is I get a lot of calls from customers thinking they are looking after the autobox by servicing it and a few days later this fault occurs.
  22. I have just removed them from my Disco as they were falling apart and I can safely say that on mine they made a big difference (so much so that I shall definately be getting new ones asap). HTH Pete.
  23. I have These which I am open to offers for! Could be persuaded to split if the tyres aren't what you want. Pete.
