  1. I took lots of pictures of my new one and old being built/taken apart... and kept the front corner of the old chassis just in case....
  2. I hope you have something heavy to bolt to..... When my dad used it it was bolted to a tractor based sawbench table.....
  3. Avoid raptor.... extremely bad engineering and no I ring....
  4. I have bent up my own aluminium radiator shroud by using two pieces of angle in the vice and clamping the aly between them and using it as a folder..... works quite well up to about 2ft long
  5. Dave... I have a big old record vice sat on my garage floor I'll happily cobalt to your cause..... I'm working in poole for the next couple of weeks.... pm me. It'sbeen right royally abused and could probably use new jaws.. . But works fine .
  6. Something so simple can be a right pain.... My truck. A 90 goes through even genuine panhard rod bushes every few thousand miles. Simply due to the use it gets.... the suspension gets a fullwork out every outing.... and as a result of that bushes don't last long at all..... On an expedition trip id even consider carrying a spare rod with new bushes for when they go..... Glad you seem to have found the fault....
  7. If panhard rod bushes are ecen a little loose once a wobble starts it'll only stop by either driving through it.... or below the speed it occurs at.... get someone to sible the steering wheel firmly and watch for play in the bushes.
  8. I have one for my smart..... ridiculously slow.... sump plug is a millin times faster!
  9. Ive just made a hose attachment. .. garden hose... fuel pipe in that... and axle breather pipe inside that... nail in the end and several holes drilled sideways.... gotta be wortha try!
  10. Has anyone devised a hose attachment for washibg through the inside of thier chassis. .. mine (thankfullygalvanised ) has lots of dried sandy grit I'd like to shift..... Any ideas welcome. ...
  11. So the one you had in mind could potentially supply enough air for almost 5 engines....lol.
  12. Ignore me.... just realised i read it wrong. ..
  13. Whilst its a relatively light engine its wide..... the exhaust ports exit downwards... the top of the heads must sit above the chassis rails.... so the weight will be quite high.... I guess it'd be ok at donuts tho..... Front axle. ... remove shafts and diff and make a cover plate??...
  14. Agreed with the merlin..... in full flight they sound awesome. .. especially in a dog figgt style flight with the soubd coming and going under full power.... Whenever theres the chance to see one or more within reasonable distance I'm there.... in a flash!
  15. 4.2 x 6000 rpm = 25200 cubic ltrs per minute. So convert that to cfm and there's your answer..... that assumes it'll rev to 6k! Roughly 890 cfm!
  16. Generally yes..... however its a forged centre 4 pin.... currently in discussion with mr barker for a special diff that i will never break during my use.....
  17. So. Its not the transfer box. .... its the front diff... pinion bearings are fubared.....
  18. No. I'm not sure..... Will remove props tonight andcheck the diffs as well as i can without removing them..... the props are fine..... I now suspect front diff..... although I'm not sure how that could be heard so much over a noisy v8!
  19. I dropped the oil last night..... not examined it yet... Have also removed the bottom plate from the t box... nothing shouting at me yet.... Props off and check the diffs next
  20. Replaced the lt230 on my 90 14 months ago. .. and today got a horrible grinding noise under power.... diminishes on the over run.... and goes totally with main box is nuetral coasting downhill.... I suspect the idler gear in the tbox has done a bearing..... Any Other ideas?... Not found any unexpected slack in the diffs yet.... got it on 4 axle stands running in gear but as there's no load i can't hear it
  21. Was the diff you removed actually broken?
  22. Roll the tyre onto a shovel.... then you can lever the shovel to lift the wheel slightly.... granted you can't rotate it but you're half way there....
  23. The 1.2 transfer box from the disco is due to the small tyres fitted to those vehicles. .... mine on 33s and 1.2 didn't lock up in top gear til nearly 60.... fitting the 1.4 means that comes down to just under 50.... much more use uk rds. It also accelerates better with lesz throttle input meaning more economy.....
