Ultimate speed isn't any different. .. as power basically dictates that.... and even though once locked you're using more revs, because you Don t need to use as much throttle it's actually more economical and quieter.....
The off road gearing doesn't change from one ratio to the next. So that's irrelevant. ... with the 1.2 you'll find that the box won't lock up until about 55mph .. which means on most ARe situations these days you'll be using more fuel and generating more heat....
I swapped mine (v8) from the 1.2 to the defender 1.4 and it made it so much better. .. acceleration from zero is better... personally there's only one option....
Is it possible that these are bolts for mounting seats or something to the wheel box?...
Whatever they are if you remove them, did the bumperettes and replace these bolts with slightly longer ones there won't be an issue.....
Have you tried looking under the wheel arch to see the other and of the bolts??
Whilst on an event 100 miles from home la st weekend we had to make a new front to rear brake pipe in a field..... just over 1/2 he including bleeding it! !
I started with a new chassis and was originally going to use the discovery cross member. ... however I eventually decided on the later puma one with the pipes going above and effectively now protected. ....
But then I didn't use standard parts either....
I have a d1 3.9 and auto in my 90. I originally used the 1.2-1 box from the disco.... on 235 /85 lock up was far too fast.... changed for a 1.4-1 and its great.... due to slightly higher revs you actually need less throttle at higher speeds whichs makes it more economical. .. and less hard work to drive as i was previously constantly trying to get to lock up speed but usually failing on regular A rds. Also everything runs cooler as once locked up less temperature is produced by the gearbox. .. basically everything just works better......
I use my truck for rtv trials..... even genuine bushes don't last a yr when pushed to extremes..... I suspect the biggest factor in bushes not lasting long is big tyres.... more grip... and bigger lateral vibrations killing them..... afterall .. they're not very big bushes!
Maybe I used the wrong word when I said pointless. .....
In my area two weeks ago there defenders were stolen.
#1 aS a tricked up lockers winch and mach 5's fitted 200tdi...
#2 was a '10' plate standard 90.....
#3 was a beaten up 90 that would look at home on a farm.....
Very little similarities between the three....
Mine is locked away with a vehicle blocking it in..... it has two electronic immobilization type systems.....
And the garage is alarmed. ...
Security against a vehicle being taken is pointless if they don't even attempt to even open the vehicle. A video posted on fb last week showed a d2 being stolen. winched onto a flatbed. They made no attempt to open it. I guess they do that when they have time and security on their side......
I for one really enjoy laning at night, I find that the relative lack of visibility adds to the experience.
that said, I rarely go alone, and only on lanes I know reasonably well. ..
I have one of his cross members on my 90.
I ordered it and pd and was given a delivery time. ..... sadly he left a whole batch out for the courier and some scrote nicked them...... so he had to make another batch. ..... mine came in kit form for me to fit, which was easy on my bare chassis. ..... I've had several comments about it and always give his name. .....
I built a scaffold frame around mine with a pulley block onto the bulkhead, and a tube under the rear floor with a hi lift each end, that tube and another which was put under the bulkhead ends were clamped to the scaffold whilst I did all the chassis work.....
