  1. leaving what is rusty metal inside is lunacy...... it'll continue to rust....... cutting it out will mean new rust would need to develop to end up rusty again. ...
  2. its not uncommon for this to happen if its never used. ... more common on discovery versions. ....
  3. Drivers footwell...... Working from the left, Bonnet release cable. The group of four are for the steering column lower mount, The two below those are the bracket that goes down to the chassis.... And the two on the right are I believe for the throttle pedal....
  4. The most important thing is what speed you're actually doing. .... The speedo is unlikely to be accurate. .... try checking speed by gps..... you might be going faster than you think!
  5. That's what the rear floor is for. .....
  6. You can take the entire plate off with four bolts.... you can then work on it much easier off the vehicle
  7. The alternative is to just put more carp in to weigh it down. ..... I'll get my coat. ... ps. have tried to edit it so it doesn't read to fill the truck with fish, but it keeps coming back up a carp.....
  8. Have fitted a late wing on early truck. ... want to use the underwing bottle and ideally the right wiring. ... anyone know if its a separate piece of loom and if so a part number? ?... Ta
  9. Bearing in mind that the engine is only slightly wider than the distance between the chassis rails and the rear floor is wider than the outside it should fit quite easily. ..
  10. I have the much bigger 110 calipers on mine. ....
  11. I bought my chassis from duckworths, pd £1100 for a tdci 90 chassis. ... bought it home and made it what I wanted. .... then put it on my trailer took it 100 miles to Cardiff who blasted and dipped it. The finish is agricultural but mine is a competition vehicle so ig doesn't matter. ... on the plus side I have apparently 120 yrs worth of protection!
  12. Has anyone asked if you can buy an ungalvanised chassis? ?..... then get it dipped yourself. ... cost me about 300 to have mine blasted and dipped. ...
  13. I had this last week, I knew the gauge was wrong as mine is a fuel hungry v8.... I removed the pump/pick up from the tank and looked in to see the float stuck on the baffle. .... a simple kink in the float wire sorted it.... remove the pick up and look in......
  14. Sacrilege to scrap it..... you'd get a reasonable price from someone who wants to build a 'new' truck with that as a starting point. ....
  15. My truck is 1985 and has the lever in the grill to open the bonnet, and the key to lock it, have just picked up a td5 bonnet to replace my battered one, I presume that the catch pin would if needed swap over, just wondered about the key hook....... I'll have to wait til it's fitted to work out if I can make a hook to fit...... Also wondering about the stay...... my truck has the folding bar....... and I guess the td5 has a straight tube... (which I don't have.....). What options do I have??.... Who was it did the rams to hold the bonnet up??
  16. Part of the issue might be that as far as I'm aware, they didn't fit that type of airbox on an injection v8 in a defender. .... so you have a mismash of bits....
  17. If you turn the crank with the gearbox in neutral you'll just turn the input shaft as well. In order to stop the input shaft rotating put the box in gear, or you could try turningthe ooutput shaft on the box.. in difflock if the transfer box is on it....
  18. About 14 months ago, I bought a brand new puma chassis from a main dealer, through ebay for £1100..... take off the fees, and then the VAT, and bearing in mind that they made profit, and the cost to the dealer was almost unbelievable......
  19. One weekend is optimistic...... how many mates are going to be helping?... How are you planning on removing/lifting the body? I would suggest as a minimum new brake pipes, chassis and flexible ones, Suspension bushes...... Engine and transmission mounts... while it's in the air why not... There's more but my brain is foggy....
  20. Bearing in mind that gkn apparently only broke even on the chassis's I doubt that..... A friend was a development officer in the engine department when they developed the 300 and gkn threatened to stop making them back then, until LR agreed to pay more for them.....
  21. Maybe they have a warehouse somewhere stacked full of stock...... unless they're buying the tooling..... which I doubt...
