  1. I used to get terrible death wobble when I first got the truck. It ran 35*12.5*16 Hankooks RT003's. Replacing panhard rod bushes, removing the lift spacers (that the previous owner had put on for some reason) lowering it from 4 to 3'' which brought it more in-line with the 3° castor corrected arms and having the wheels rebalanced sorted it. Not had a problem since.
  2. A Remap maybe unnecessary for a standard vehicle but if you fit bigger tyres, increase weight with cage / winches / mods you can't expect the same performance. Though before tuning, making sure everything works as it should (MAF)and 'tune' the engine by letting it 'breath': EGR, decat, straight through centre...etc is a good and cheaper start.
  3. Pete, find the two connectors on the T-Box as I mentioned tuther day. By connecting / disconnecting them, the resistance will change... 'hall sensor' and ECU will alter throttle response one way or the other, can't remember which way. Try disconnecting them from tbox first, check throttle response, then connect the two wires together and see if that makes a difference. I can't remember which way it works, but have a fiddle. Have you found out if your MAF has gone btw?
  4. That has confirmed my thoughts, hence my 'sensible' statement. I know they will fit but wasn't sure if they would stay there. Think I'll wait and get some bigger ones another time. Cheers guys, it was the real life experience of others that I was after . In theory and in practice are often two very different things. Cheers Sharpie
  5. Couldn't find an answer using search function. I'm sure has been mentioned in the countless 'what tyres will fit' etc, etc topics but I couldn't find. Surprised there isn't a wheel and tyre section in the Tech Archive. My question : Are disco II 8'' alloys too wide to sensibly fit some 235's for offroad use? Cheers Sharpie
  6. Cheers guys! I wasn't sure whether there would be quality issues with VOX or whether it would be discernible comparing with bluetooth. I wasn't aware of delays with PMR either. Think I will go for the bluetooth option. Many thanks Sharpie
  7. Hey chaps, posted in international forum about headsets but as we'll only be using at LRS so makes more sense to ask here. Those teams that are using headsets, are you bluetoothing or VOX? I'd like to go Vox (cheaper) but want to make sure we don't cross channels with other teams using. Is anyone? Cheers, Sharpie
  8. Hey guys looking into comm headsets for use in challenge events and am not sure which way to go? The more expensive, 'overpriced' bluetooth set advertised on a certain well known 4x4 site is a tad too expensive, or maybe I'm missing the functions/pints that make it worthwhile..? Have found cheaper bluetooth 'bt interphone / team rider' type sets that compare to the likes of the midland G7 vox but i'm not sure which way to go. The bluetooth options we've looked at has only a 7hr battery life, which I worry won't be enough for some events or won't last after numerous charges. However the lack of channels on the VOX (9 that we've seen), and transmission overlaps / blocks with other teams also stops me buying on the off. What are people using / have experience with / would recommend? Any help would be great, utterly stumped as to which way to go at the moment :S Cheers, Sharpie
  9. I think the retailers are missing out on lots of opportunities by not pricing online. How often do you go somewhere looking for one thing and end up buying something else as well? This buying behaviour plays quite a large part in marketing, it's 'name'escapes me but loss leaders being an example where certain products pull in customers to the supermarkets in the hope that they also purchase other 'premium products', where they make their monies. This happens everywhere. Having to ring up to get a price on everything certainly puts me off.. Unless I was looking for something specific. I can't imagine it to be hard to link the online catalogue to current stock and price lists...
  10. Ah cheers guys, that will work perfectly with my current set up when I add a tank in the back! Score
  11. Interesting. Could just be coincidence :S how are your t-box output and diff nose bearings. I'm sure someone will be along this evening with some wisdom lol
  12. Found this in the garage while clearing out. Came with my truck I bought last year but have never known what it was for. Found this today AIRTAC but still not really the wiser. I am guessing it could be used for air treatment in AC pump powered air supply systems, to remove the oil used to lubricate the pump but not sure if that is correct or how this would be done. Anyone in the know? Cheers Sharpie
  13. Andy at AW is a really good, honest and knowledgeable bloke. Had a couple of dealings with him, opened up the shop for me out of hours to return my old t-box, customer service you just don't get these days. Can't fault the re-conned box or the service, top notch! I'm not affiliated to AW at all but try my best to keep the small local guys going, use when ever I can in my area. I would not try to fault Ashcrofts at all but people do often assume that just because you pay more, the product will be of higher quality. Bigger companies charge what they can, all comes back to supply and demand. Their reputation, which they have successfully built up over the years to their credit, allows them to charge 'premium' prices. If there was no competition, prices would go up even more. I am still a student, so maybe price is more of a concern to me than others but when my gearbox falls over, which it is starting to show signs, I know where I'll be parting with my cash safe in the knowledge that the product is equal to the best money can buy, AW!
  14. The only difference between a 300 LT230 and Td5 LT230 in terms of fitting is that the Td5 one has output for the high-low output for high-low throttle response. I prefer to alter this my self anyway so I manually control that on an in-cab switch in my Td5. But for a 300, you just don't plug it in. Sharpie
  15. Does that really matter, even if it is true? I wouldn't personally buy a set of MT's based on road noise.... You will always have to compromise.
  16. Why not fit some adapter spacers D4-Defender/D1? Then you can fit those wheels, D4 disc and calliper permitting. Adapter spacers and muds for playtime, then back to normal when worky time? Sharpie
  17. A friend has a 54 plate TDV6 and recently had it serviced by an independent, who he'd been going to for the last 10 years (He saw no reason to give 5 times much money to Ottons in Salisbury!). The only thing that the independent couldn't do was to update the service indicator. Is there a way of doing this manually without the use of faultmate or similar. Or does anyone know of someone in the Salisbury area that would be able to help out? Many thanks Sharpie
  18. Ah cheers guys, I had an inkling it was something like that. At the moment I have no bottom door seals, just lots of daylight Is it possible to fit the later seals to my series doors or easier to get an early sill? Thoughts / experience? Thanks again much appreciated! Sharpie
  19. Evening chaps Wondered if someone can quickly explain the difference between the front bottom door seals pre LA (94) and after. I have series door bottoms on my Td5 but not sure which to get. Front door bottom seal to LA933976 - DEFENDER MWC6130 £6.50 ex VAT Front door bottom seal from LA933977 - DEFENDER ALR6250 £2.70 ex VAT Cheers Sharpie
  20. I hope i'm not hijacking your thread Nige, however, I am also thinking ahead for a change of engine DVLA meeting. I bought a 300 Tdi from a landy breaker a number of years ago but have no receipt for it and can't guarantee it's origin unfortunately. I am being very pessimistic here but I want to cover myself before I contact the DVLA. The build is still ongoing and won't be on the road until next year but thought to ask now while a hot topic. It is a standard 300 replacing a 2.25 petrol but wondered what the options were and the possible outcomes of doing so. When I contact the DVLA to inform them of the engine change, do I... 1. Give them the engine number and hope for the best (what are the repercussions if the engine number is registered as one from a stolen vehicle?) or 2. Register it with no engine number 'engine number unknown', is this still possible? Regards Sharpie
  21. ha ha sounds like a love-hate relationship between you and God! lol 'Then I decided to have another nap in the middle of road, which was nice too' - Thanks for that. I really do hope you and Nige collate all your stories some time.
