  1. Didn't BMW get a huge kickback from the UK government when they bought Landrover from Rover? If so, and with all the banking goings on it's not that unusual nowadays! Cheaper for the taxpayer to chuck money in the pot than pay all those long term DSS claims, rents etc... (so they think anyway)
  2. Still got my Puma after 1 year and 20,000 miles. No issues, other than the two PAS fluid leaks (buy they may not have been the cars fault...) Yes, I liked my Td5, but the better interior of the Puma and 6th gear makes it more usable everyday. Mainly the good air-con, quickly demisting side windows and better heating. Build quality on mine very good, never had any cabin water leaks and doors close well. Having said that I just bought a 55 plate RR vogue for everyday... going soft in my old age. Oh yes, the Puma is very good for trialling. TC works at tickover and will get you though with no fuss where others are spinning. No need to rev the engine and spin the wheels to get it working like I had to with the Td5.
  3. I thought about the sales one, then thought again as I'd be militant on posts with unhelpful contributions and people expecting to get stuff for next to nothing.
  4. Hi Mark Have you thought about a husky in the back? No brake in the drum so you can use plasma if you want and they go reasonably well with a 6hp warn XP motor. I was always concerned with a rear winch if the plasma got melted by the heat of the brake and those huskys are very reliable. Richard
  5. A bit of training is the best way to go. Byways are fun, but can be tricky in places which may mean you get stuck. Not fun walking for help on your first time out! Generally it's reccomended to take two vehicles if greenlaning, just incase one of you has a problem.
  6. Not worth the cost in many cases. Small claims is around 60 pounds out of your pocket to start chasing the other person. In my case why bother even to waste the time for less than 10 quid.
  7. Good job he had money in his account. I lost £12 and they only managed to recover £2.64 ????
  8. Problem with relying on cameras is that people who drive like fools, but within the speed limit never get picked up. I'm sure since more and more cameras were commisioned the number of police on the road has decreased and the number of idiot drivers increased.
  9. Second vote for Noisekiller. Made a noticable difference to my 300TDi and my Td5.
  10. Never had a problem before, but moving between threads and posting is taking over 5 minutes. Well, it was after and before the IPS error. Then it just didn't want to know.
  11. Hi Not using the truckcab anymore. Just got my transit powered hardtop and a mkIII RR. I wouldn't want the bend the latter. Every trip to Bures always ends in me fixing something... because it's not structured (like a challenge) and I get carried away. Richard
  12. When I picked my RR up on Wednesday, the dealer suggested leaving it in access mode when parked for any length of time. (meaning a few days or more) Apparently leaving the air suspension in the lowered mode cancels out the self leveling, otherwise it will be trying to self level all the time if on uneven ground. This relates to a 55 plate, but the system may work the same as on a P38.

    Snow

Got a puma with a heated screen and seats.
  14. I think you'll find the pricing issue has something to do with needing to show prices with VAT included. But they never quote with the VAT and add it on to your invoice afterwards. That way you end up spending more than you planned. (well, I always did)
  15. Yes, it not that unusual for a new firm to be set up and buy the old assets from the reciever even, then use the same trading name or something very close. Not that I am saying that's what has happened. Overall this thread is a good example of why I don't use this forum so much anymore. It's independant, but even ADMIN feel the need to stick the boot in early on. I've never had any major problems with Scorpion. I won't jump on the bandwagon and stick the boot in, I feel sorry for all the employees and suppliers if they have financial problems.
  16. Dealers should cover any vehicle modded or not, as long as the mods did not cause the damage. Mine are happy to, as long as yoy tell them what you changed so they know what they are working with.
  17. Good to know Bures is open again. How much is it to visit? Edited to add, just checked the site. £30.
  18. Got your reminder this morning. Paid the lr4x4.com treasurer by paypal this morning. Sorry for delay, don't use the forum much now.
  19. I used a diesel Ford Galaxy from work (same weight as the 90) and got an average over three tanks of 54mpg. That saved quite a bit over driving the defender. I thought modern diesels did something to the injectors so you used next-to-no fuel when coasting anyway?
  20. Yes, but if a few newer vehicles didn't have problems, everyone couldn't feel better about having an older one. I'd much rather have my old one still and live with problems from wear/age/design flaws now fixed in the 2007 spec. My Puma has been great. Coming up to one year and 18,000 miles. Problems? Only two. Both times it was leaking PAS. LR fault? Maybe not. Might have something to do with putting on modulers with thin tyres and adjusting the steering for much more lock. Both times I got the leak a day after trialling when spending some time on the (new adjusted) full lock. Maybe the system just can't work that far out without popping something. Now I allow for it, not a problem. My impression of it? Great vehicle. Comfortable, reliable, cured many of the old Defender problems. Misty windows? Just flick on the air con and with the new side window vents the windows are clear in 10 seconds. No water leaks. (but then I'd not buy a defender with carpets now) Only two things I don't like. The tyres they come on (soon changed to BFG ATs) and the fact that a county can't have the XS stereo option from new with MP3. Mine is a county hardtop, no XS option on a van. So both things I don't like can easily be changed. Quick edit... I moved the seat back a little using MUDrails, worth it to get more space for my long legs. Mainly due to the fact that I was doing 500 miles per week in it at the time.
  21. Off roading, I'd go TDI as I love the sound, power delivery and ease to drive. I had many 300TDi defenders. On roading, I'd go TD5. That's based on my experience. 57,000 miles in a 55 plate TD5 110CSW. Great on the road after chipping, the turbo lag used to annoy me. Always seemed like it was power on or off when offroading. Mine was hard to get the correct throttle pressure off road. It was either no power, pulling you along with the torque or full throtte. For both... Puma it's fab at both! (yes, it's off topic)
  22. Mine is fine 80% of the time, but the other 20% of the time you can hear it over the engine. I was going to ask LR to have a look at the next service... but I expect it will not be making a noise on that day. It's a whirring noise. I've checked it's not interference by switching off the radio. Still the same.
  23. I need to find a replacement disc braked real axle for a 130. Is it the same as a 110 and any idea where to source one from? 1995 model year. Thanks.
  24. Strangely, in my 33" BFG muds they were terrible and the vibrations over 50mph made it undrivable. Now back to regular weights.
