  1. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=53661 this is how i did it.
  2. I think this trans was certainly changed at some point as one of the bolts was really short** so thats now a M10x35mm and the stud replaced with a M10x40mm. **The hole thats next to the front output housing which White90 says in his article has a smaller head certainly wasn't on mine but its now an M10x35. It only had a 20mm in it and thats too short. A 40mm was too long and jammed the Trans. Anyhow its now fitted and full of Q8 80/90 and i should be back on the road soon even if its only a test run. Thanks for the help,,, as always.
  3. Thanks. Looking on Microcat it looks like they should be in certain locations but since you're usually better than Microcat i'll go with the holes i have left... TA
  4. can anyone tell me where the two studs go. I got one on the left side second hole down where the main earth goes. Does the other go top right or bottom right? (I'm facing front of vehicle) Part is FTC890 and i have two. One for the earth. Whats the other for and where's it go? Suppose I should have took note what i removed them ! Thanks. This is driving me mad and i've not found the answer anywhere.
  5. Thanks Les. I'll give it a miss then. Super.
  6. Thanks all for the encouragement. If i might ask, why would i want to remove it anyhow? I'm meant to be replacing the brake disk and pads a wheel bearings and seal. What would i need to remove the stub for? Theres nothing amis this is just maintenance. So before I put it all back together can you give me a good reason to get out the BIG hammer...
  7. thanks guys. I'm scared.....already clouted it more than i would.
  8. does the rear stub axle on a 110 detach from the axle itself. It looks like its part of the whole rear axle. TA
  9. I just got some white spirit. At the moment this is £1.05 per litre (Wickes). If whatever you get is meant for the job and its less than that, i'd go for it.
  10. OK so i'm going to fix the trans myself. Its been toasted by the lack of lubrication . Its a good deal cheaper than the recon box and to be honest i don't trust ashcrofts. I'd rather know all the bits that need changing are done than trust on someone telling me they are done. I quized them for ages and no specifics were mentioned. They said they might or might not change bits at their discretion. They said they had trouble with sourcing diffs which is what mine needs, so i'm going to buy one and fit it myself. Trust no one Its 50% done anyhow affer having an expensive white spirit bath and clean. I've got a recon kit and replaced some bearings. All the seals will be done so it should be as good as any Ashcrofts box. I might yet do all bearings but i'm convinced they are almost new anyhow. Its a good deal cheaper that Ashcrfofts to do it yourself. Failing that,,, this weekend will be dedicated to rear brakes and bearings.
  11. Thanks. As i thought. Duncan's done me a quote so I might order tomorrow. Cheers Western :D
  12. part 2 on this diagram the rear end of the shaft (next to the red gear in this exploded view) is worn by 1.5 mm meaning the bearing doesn't sit snug. Is this a servicable part? As thats the only thing wrong with the box. Paying Ashcrofts £600 (445+55+vat) seems expensive for this one bit. Think i got it. FTC5207 What do you reckon...Britpart OK. It a big chunk of metal so how bad can it be?
  13. so what do you think? The 4939 is newer according to this site. Should i get them instead? http://lrautomotive.com.au/contents/en-us/d4604.html
  14. i've bought a kit (RTC3809) with all the seals in and theres 2 x FRC7043 but no FTC4939 there seems to be slight differences but the one in the box is a FTC..do i just use the FRC as a direct replacement?? Page 369 parts book. Item 6 shows FRC. The one in it, isn't.
  15. it might be a "do not"....not done it yet... "that is why you fail" now if R2 was around to help with his tool attachemet.....
  16. thanks....box now in bits. i'll buy all the seals and replace the bearing. The others look fine. To be honest i wouldn't be supprised if the box has been done already and the bad bearing was installed wrong or faulty.
  17. thanks fof the confirmation. It could have happend anytime. The rest of the box is perfect. I've just stripped it and its all OK except that single bearing. I might replace the others, but to be honest they all look good. Looks like the cage broke up and spilled the rollers. No damage internally just that one. So i know have a completely dismantled trans box. I'll order the parts. TA. ps called Ashcrofts...get the feeling the are a bit busy as they were little help.
  18. if anyone can tell me how to get at the rear taper bearing on the output shaft (the inner one) i'd be much obliged. If you look at my post in the parts request section you'll see which one i mean. Thanks My post in part section. ps if any one wants their leg pulled, you don't need a 2 leg puller,,,just me.
  19. i think its FRC7970 for the nut and 606474 for the bearing. What do you think, those the correct parts? do you think its full stip to replace it?
  20. I was going to do just that if i couldn't find the part code. Thanks for the help.
  21. Thanks. If i'd read it properly and not been so dumb i'd not have shagged up to stud. Any chance theres a part code? This ? 571536 its out at least.... Thanks for the help western . The trans box is now in a box . I'll call ashcrofts on Monday. BTW the gearbox sounds fine. Might need a clutch though.
  22. thanks western. one i'd got the crud off i could see the lip to prise it out. super easy...TA. is there a trick to removng the associated dowel bolt? I've put a nut on it and i've tried a claw hammer and it seems fast. Should i just give it more welly?
  23. I've removed the entire trasafer box and unless i can find some help on the inner bearing it looks like its off to Ashcrofts. Can't figure out how the hell i'd get it out. So failing that. How do i remove the speedo gear from the trans box as this needs to be retained to fit to the new box. Ashcrofts don't supply them with the recon.
  24. any chance you have some pictures on how to change the rear innner taper bearing. My thread is here. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=52813&st=100 Thanks
