  1. Unfortunatly with my "special" machine nothing can be assumed. the Calipers I just whipped off are old 41.2mm ones with solid discs. - nice and handy though, I can try pick up some 46mm calipers now. it totally baffles me as to why they should be cheaper then "90" parts. I was coming to the conclusion that they must have standardised them, good to have the conformation.
  2. I actually noticed mine was made in Germany... perhaps its becasue I haven't got an "audi" style operating manual for it. How are you meant to load greese guns?
  3. I'm glad you can get ur greaser to work, mine perpetually fires grease at me at the most unopertune moment!!! I think it has a life of its own.
  4. I'm just looking at a set of 110 front callipers for my 90 (they seem to go for cheaper £££ on ebay) now as I understand it the only thing different from 90 parts are they are of a bigger caliper piston diameter so a greater volume of moving fluid...? So I thought I would have to change the master cylinder to match, well I just looked up the part number for the one thats fitted presently, its STC441, this is the one with 3 ports, 2 up front one for rear. According to the parts catalogues for 90's and 110's, they use the same model master cylinder? both show STC441 from VIN HA901220, from this I'm guessing I won’t have a problem running 110 callipers? Anyone like to advise? Cheers Mav
  5. It kinda has a "bush" truck look about it....
  6. Often thought what would fit in the dash space of a defender.... Walnut dash.....
  7. Not having any idea what either of the 2 sides your trying to match up look like - could you do some trial fitting and then some match drilling?
  8. I found the mounting plate for the actual mechanism is flimsey and bends really easily, chack out that the plate its mounted to is all nice and straight. mav
  9. I got an R380 shorty and tansfer box from AW transmissions. Had very good service etc. Unfortunatly I've only "dry run" the box as yet as still building up my rig, but speaking to Andrew he did exactly what Ashcroft do, but when I was specing the transmission, speaking to the Ashcroft people I kinda got the immpresion they didn't need/want work I could give them so I went with AW instead, he practically bent over backwards to accomadate me. *Yet to see how the box gets on!! but its sounds alright from some no load tests. Mav
  10. Who'd you hear this from? I've written them a letter and heard nothing from them?? unfortunatly to me that does not fill me with any kind of confidance of them improving there quality? as an engineer by proffesion, it drives me up the wall the lunacy of the General managment and managment of the QA of that company. Appologies for the rant.
  11. Jeez, you could have said a little sooner, I just recived some BP solid discs yesterday... I didn't think I could go wrong with discs, as long as they fit there's not a lot more you can get wrong with them! So you're saying they're like the chocolate money you get in xmas stocking, or an Amadillo... crutchy on the ouside, soft on the inside.....
  12. There should be a tiny bit of play in the vains as it runs on an oil film bearing principal. you know if its on its way out as there will be oil leaking either into the exhaust oulet or the intercooler/inlet manifold. does it smoke a little too much when normal driving? if not then you're probably ok. Oil in that area could be from the oil drain on the turbo, or oil inlet for that matter. (mine a disco 200tdi by the way) I've not got round to sorting this just yet.
  13. I was a plusgas virgin until Tuesday... very immpresive stuff. When I did mine I replaced the rear upper shock mounts too, they where pretty corroded when the new shock bush slid on them, there was a fair ammount of play, which would have only got worse.
  14. After traveling across South America and spending a fair ammount of time on Boliva, all the locals had Land cruisers... funnily enough, the few Land rover's I did happen to see where painted bright Orange! - the G4 happend to be popping through...
  15. Is this something to do with a front anti role bar linkage at all?
  16. There are no seals in the actual casing par say. There is a seal fitted to the inside of the swivel ball (it kinda acts as the axle case oil seal) and then another one on the inside of the stub axle. These are the only 2 oil seals that seal to the drive shaft.
  17. As nicks90 says, I'd ask for the proper one firstly. but that will proabaly entaile faff and delay. As far as that one is concerned it should fit - have you got the old case to chack your dimensions of spring mounts etc, to check? STC4291 - from LRseries is for RRC... I'm guessing you paid through the nose for it too...!
  18. Thanks Western. Its actually the RH, appologies. I tried putting the number into Lrseries/rimmerbros and it didn't pull anything up? do you recon this is a dealer only part?
  19. Western, Whats Rilsan, I'm guessing its that blue stuff thats paointed on the spline, is it like a Teflon coating?
  20. Rakway are a motor sports engineering firm, they make heavy duty bits for racing spec vehicle like dakar 4x4 etc. make you a clutch that you could tow the world with. - the guy was extremly helfull when I spoke to him about clutches, loads of free advice. http://www.rakeway.co.uk/
  21. Hey Gary, I think the kit is numbered BM 0102 Mav
  22. This was a boxed "wheel bearing" kit. - so it was pre-made up of components. Not a fan of no name parts, but the bearings don't look to bad. as they're easy enough to change I'll probably fit them up and see how I get on. I've ordered some branded Timkin bearings to keep as spares.
  23. Rakeway - very good, nice sexy parts are available from them. hmmmmmmmm
  24. Hello, I just purchased 2 Bearmach wheel bearing kits, I was under the impression that they used Timkin bearings, but on inspection of the bearings, all there is, is a few numbers and letters. No "Timkin" in sight. I have a few Timkin swivel bearings that have Timkin stamped all over them, so I'm guessing Bearmach bearings are not Timkin ones, can anyone elaborate? I can't see Timkin not stamping bearings up with there name if they were from them. Cheers Mav
